G'day. Sunny here and warm with some whispy cloud that is clearing. Dry but tomorrow's rain forecast has gone back up a whole 2mm. They've also taken away our mid 20s and sunshine forecast fo next week. Miserable lot these forecasters.

I've asked OH to weed and fork over one of the potato beds so I can plant my asparagus tomorrow but he's feeling weary today after doing a lot of stone moving and weeding by hand yesterday. I shall be checking on babies and am thinking of moving all the remaining pots out of the nursery to a patch in the veg plot where they will get winter sunshine as their old, roofless barn has walls on the 3 sunny sides and is open to the north so they'll not be any colder.

    Safe trips to @Busy-Lizzie and @Liriodendron. Maybe a museum too @Liriodendron ?

We've done our weekly shop at the SM today @Tui34. The nearest decent markets are at Les Sables d'Olonne so 45km away. La Roche has one but it wasn't wonderful when we first tried and then spent years under re-development so we don't bother with it.

      Afternoon folks.

I’m all shivery and headachey - almost certainly C’vid but no point testing as no benefit. We aren’t given any time off from work any more so it will spread about at will between patients and staff.

Take care everyone and hope you dodge the germs.

Take care not to let it get worse @AuntyRach so you recover well. There's a lot of it about here in the coastal resorts now that all the tourists have gone home after spreading their bugs.

I've managed a wee bit of pottering this pm - more seedlings coming thru - and started on the sort out in my "nursery". It's watered regularly so there are weeds invading pots with gay abandon but also managing to establish themselves in about 2mm of soil or compost that's been spilled. Infuriating.

Had to stop to get cleaned up for the garden club committee meeting this evening. We end with a pot luck supper at about 8:30, by which time I'm famished so I've just had a snack to see me thru.

        Have a pleasant evening all.

@AuntyRach it's rife at the moment; shame you have to work.
Think I'm sickening for sommat and I'm glad we've come home. I suspect the 'kids' shared a germ or two on Monday. I had a snooze when we got in and the heating is on.
My last covid jab was May and I am supposed to be having my flu jab on Sat morning.
Rather than rely on actually going to the SM tomorrow, I've organised a Tesco delivery. I'm sure we won't starve.

Sorry to hear you two are feeling poorly, hope you feel better soon.

We're not booked in for our flu/covid jabs till early November, our surgery is only doing them on two Saturdays. I have been wondering whether we should get them done privately sooner.

I spent what was left of the morning by hacking my way to the very back of the garden in order to get to an old copper chimney cover which I thought I might as well take to the scrap metal merchant for some beer money! It was nearly covered by ivy so had to hack that off first. Then came the fun bit. Got the scales out on the path, weighed myself and then weighed myself again holding the copper to find out it's approximate weight in kilos. Good result - both me and the copper. Just got to try to get it in the car now!

Battened down the hatches as bad weather is apparently coming in including high winds and put the left over good wood battens under cover. I'm sure they will come in useful to do something if only I can think of something.

Don't envy you @Liriodendron, hope you can find something to do in Oban. I've only been there once briefly by train so didn't see most of it.

@lizzie27, Have you looked on the NHS website for an alternative place to have your jabs? We were both invited to have our flu jabs at our GP surgery, usual arrangement of special clinics on a Saturday, and the first one wasn’t until the end of October. Then OH got an invite to book a Covid jab, at the local vaccination centre, just outside Exeter. While I was booking it for him, I saw that I could book him for a flu jab at the same time, and also book myself for a flu jab ( can’t have the Covid one as I am a couple of months too young). So we both had our jabs yesterday, which was the first day they were available. Remembered to cancel the other appointments when I got home.
I did look at maybe having a Covid jab privately at a pharmacy, but it was almost £100 and there were very few appointments available on their website.

Good evening everyone. I had a lovely time with my Bestie today. The 4 night break she had with her daughter had gone down very well. They both said that they could have stayed until the end of this week. I managed to complete the baby scarf which I suspect might be more useful when she is toddling but her Dad will probably drape it over her cot - just to annoy her Granddad who is a rabid Sunderland supporter. Once I've got all the ends woven in and the fringing added I can get it sent off and get back to knitting the daisies.
When I went to Tesco yesterday morning I was looking for duvets as the channel stitching on the one I have at the moment is unravelling. I was lucky enough to get a bargain one simply because its wrapper had been slightly split and there was a little dust on the exposed bit of duvet. It was all of £12 so had to go into my trolley. Plus point, its machine washable. I was fascinated to see some pillows with CBD and others with copper. However, I am not in need of pillows just yet. I was thwarted by the lack of plants on display but I did see pumpkins of every size for sale. Surely it is too early for those items? There is nothing sadder than a decomposing pumpkin face. I do have to 'fess up to buying not just one but two C*******s jumpers! I left it too late last year and missed the best selections. Mea culpa.
Glad you enjoyed your walk with Fizz @Tui34. Hope your leg stood up to it and isn't aching too much tonight. Apologies @Busy-Lizzie as I thought it was today you were leaving for your son's - only because I had convinced myself last night that it was Friday today! I'm a twonk!
I am signing out now and yes, I do know tomorrow is Friday because being the first Friday of the month it is our Quizzers Lunch Out day. We are going to a place called Penelope's in Southport. Not been there before but have heard good reports about it.
                  Good night everyone.jpg

We get our flu and covid jabs free at the pharmacy now @Ergates and @lizzie27. Just have to book an appointment in advance.

We always wash our feather duvets @Ladybird4 but take them to the biggest machines at the launderette and then the tumble dryer as we don't have one. Works a treat.

Feeling weary now after a busy day and then the garden club meeting and supper. Discipline was a bit better and we got a fair bit of work done. There will be fun at the AGM in December tho as the new treasurer has said she'll only do the job if we streamline subscriptions using a new online system where everyone submits their forms online and pays by bank transfer. This will be fun as the older members and technophobes will revolt and need help. It's all academic for me as the AGM is on OH's 75th birthday so I won't be there for the fuss.

I came home with some agapanthus plants shorter purple Michaelmas daisies and 4 quinces to make a tart. I'd taken 5 helenium Red Shades for one colleague and a Malvern Hills cutting for another.

A very good (??) morning one and all. Bracing myself for the storm due this afternoon and being nearer the coast for lunch it could be quite interesting. My friends are picking me up so at least I won't have to drive. This morning I had to get rid of a murder victim - courtesy of Cricket - and when I was outside I was actually quite surprised at how mild it is. Much nicer than some of the mornings I've had recently. I was due to receive two parcels from that large south American river company today - a giant pack of cat biscuits for His Majesty and a giant pack of vermiculite but they were both leaning against the garage door when I pulled up yesterday after being at Bestie's and I am actually pleased about that, with today's forecast, as it was dry and I have been able to get them safely stashed. I know that you have a long journey ahead today @Busy-Lizzie so fingers are crossed for you that there are no big holdups. I wish everyone a happy day.

I enjoyed my lunch out and my trip to club. My partner didn't really have his mind on the game, he was waiting for a call from his grandson, whose wife was in labour with my partner's first great grand-child. He didn't really know how to use his phone, which kept buzzing and pinging. Eventually, he sorted it out, it was a girl, mother and baby fine. We all gave a sigh of relief. I managed to come home without my fleece jacket, it will be safe but so annoying.
It was good to see club members I have not seen for a long time, to catch up on club gossip etc.
My ribs are improving on a daily basis, I only take Co-codamol for 3-4 days at a time.
My daughter almost had a nasty fall, she missed the top step of her stairs, fortunately she saved herself, just a nasty bruise on her arm and shaken up. Tumbles are obviously not the prerogative of the old and elderly!
On my travels yesterday, through town, I saw lots of road signs, OMG! There are going to be major road works for the gas supply, from Oct. 10th for 9 weeks. Long delays expected. The town will be gridlocked and local drivers will be using long detours through village lanes.Uggghhh! There are already temporary traffic lights near where I live, where holes are being dug in preparation, that is bad enough.
I have will have a supply of spag. bo.amd cassoulett in the freezer so I will not starve. There are a few mini marts in nearby villages where I can shop if desperate.
I have decided to go to my surgery today to collect my prescription, then drive on to Heligan butchers. Tomorrow I only have to go for my flu/Covid jabs. I have 3 health related appoinments next week then I shall be in shut down for 9 weeks.
B&Q used to sell black builders buckets for £1.00, they are now bright orange, I am not sure about the price. I am sure they are not £15.00.
I will have a freezer full of spag. bol., and bean stew so I will not starve. There are some mini -marts in nearby villages where I can shop if desperate.

I hope everyone is able to saty safe over the weekend. It looks as if it will be nasty up North. Take care everyone.

Good morning. It is grey but mild and we have wet air so not even a drizzle. The rain radar says we'll get 1mm an hour this morning. Despite the lack of rain parts of the garden are looking very bonny. The various salvias are very happy and floriferous and there are heleniums, asters, cannas, late sunflowers, dahlias, clematis and more flowering their socks off.

I too woke up to a present @Ladybird4 - an organ and a tail. Lovely. Hoping my bulbs arrive soon but they'll be DHL so who knows?

I have asparagus to plant today and shallots. I'd decided that last spring's crop did so badly in the heatwaves that I'd leave them in but OH has dug them up complete with roots and new shoots so I'm putting them back to see if they do anything.

After that, more pot sorting for what can be planted if we ever get some rain and what needs potting on to grow a bit more.

Have a lovely day everyone, whatever you're up to. Stay safe from the storm and safe journey for those travelling.

It really bucketed down last night, could hear the rain hammering on the roof when we went to bed. We have come out this morning, but it’s very foggy, but at least dry and quite mild.
Commiserations on the road closures, @Goldenlily26. One of the two roads through our village has been closed for nearly two weeks, apparently they were renewing the electricity supply to one house but it caused such a lot of disruption. The diversion was via some narrow lanes with limited places for cars to pass each other, so we ended up instead going out to the main road to bypass the village.
The topic of narrow lanes regularly comes up when there are planning applications submitted. The builders invariably try to imply that their proposed plot is nearer to the village centre than it is, so that the new residents would walk or cycle and won’t need to use cars and add to the traffic. I wish that part of the application would require them to be dropped at the proposed building site at 7am on a rainy winter day, and make their way to and from say, a supposed job in Exeter, and see how they get on! Might be a shock to them to realise how many really steep hills there are, no street lighting and no pavements, and be grateful that most residents haven’t put gates across their driveways, otherwise there would be even fewer places for cars to pass each other.
Safe journeys for those travelling, and hope everyone gets through the storm without disruption.
