I have ( somehow ?? ) managed to accumulate a number of Aloe vera plants. As said previously, I do find it useful to use on cuts, grazes, insect bites but there is a limit. Looking online, for human consumption there appears to be pros and cons and I'm not sure I trust half of what is on there anyway.
I wasn't actually thinking about it for myself but has anyone actually made their own Juice and was it worth it ?
Alternatively, is there any benefit from chopping and soaking and using as a feed for any plants ( specific or general ) ? Otherwise, it's the Green Garden Bin or the compost heap. Many thanks for any suggestions .

Never heard of using it as a plant food, though expect many other plants could be used as a food in that way ?
We now tend to use our Aloes as decoration rather than medicinal.

For a diy plant food we got some Comfry plants last year, the Bocking 14 strain, which you can make into the traditional Tea, but also simply scatter or dig in the leaves.
Its well liked by the Bees etc and at 3-4 foot high a good gap filler at the back of a border.

Just wondering how Philippa found this old entry.
My thoughts @ricky101 , I don’t buy any food made in China. The few areas that the Chinese can use for food production are in between the most poisonous, polluted areas. You can’t go out there, it literally burns you lounges and you need a filter in front of the windows. One wonders that people don’t die in the millions.

Well our friends, ( not Chinese) still swear by that Aloe drink and seem well on it, though not our cup of tea !
Seems hard enough to find unadulterated food made in the UK these days let alone the other side of the world.

OH also bought them a few times but I think it was more the sugar and exotic of Aloe Vera that did it
We used Aloe Vera for what is officially called Alopecia areata when I was a child.

@ricky101 Yes, the Comfrey plant is useful in more ways than one. Not plants exactly but @Obelix-Vendée suggests putting Banana skins with orange peel in water, leave to soak and then strain off the liquid, dilute with water and use as a feed for House plants.
I don't think I'll attempt to make any Aloe juice so it's chopping up and into the compost heap.
@simone_in_wiltshire If you look on the Cacti and Succulent thread and go back far enough, posts about Aloe vera are on there :)

As far as I can tell, @ricky101 and @Philippa, the aloe vera drink works as a laxative so is of no interest to anyone who has a varied diet with lots of plant fibre. It features in many skin and hair products and can but, used topically, fresh, for cuts, burns and acne.

I'm still using the banana water with an orange peel and also add the unsalted water from boiling potatoes tho I don't do that very often - boil potatoes that is.

Asian shops sell fat aloe plants in pots in veg department and have aloe drinks too. Looks like it's common for them.
I love aloe as a houseplant. I use it rearly, because although aloe regenerates cells in the body, it regenerates both good and bad (cancer).
I soak tomato seeds in aloe prior to putting into soil. Occasionally when sick I make a drink aloe+lemon+honey to use a large spoon or two a day. It was I was given in childhood when having cough.

@Alisa ......... interesting as I often have Lemon and Honey to help a cough or sore throat. However, how do you make your aloe to add to that mix or do you buy the ready made Aloe juice ? I never use White sugar which appears to be one of the main ingredients for this.
Thanks @Obelix-Vendée - the laxative properties don't seem to have cropped up before so worth knowing.
I'll not be ating or drinking my spare Aloes :)

Taking fat aloe leaf from plant, let it sit in the fridge for a week or so, then take the skin off and blender with freshly pressed lemon juice and honey. Again keeping the mixture in the fridge and not for too long.
