    Good afternoon to you all!

    Overcast, sunny and coolish.

I'm sorry to hear you have caught the Covid bug @AuntyRach It will always be around now, I think. People here still wear masks. A good idea in winter for coughs and splutters. I think autumn is probably the worst month for bugs and bacteria. I am amazed that you still have to turn up for work - in fact my nursing neighbours tell me, it is the same here. Staff is short and overcharged with work.

Safe arrival to you and Cedric @Busy-Lizzie Nice to have the stopovers to rest and recuperate but I am sure you will be glad to reach your designation.

I should think that cat owners on here should start up The Friday Cat Murder Club! Rodents are mating and nesting at this time of year, so it is inevitable that there is more dawdling at night than usual!!

Road works abound here too @Goldenlily26 Maybe autumn is the best time of year to get work done. Not hot, hopefully not raining and less traffic. I am glad your ribs are feeling a bit better. I too, tripped going up 3 steps - on the last step and have a now purple/yellow knee and bruised pride!! Just nipped my toe going up!! Didn't want to say last week as I seemed to have one thing after another! Yes! My middle name is "Clumsy". 2242DA6B-B554-44AF-8D84-C12C52CC1F03.jpeg

Keep safe during this storm. As they all say - it will pass and fair weather will follow!

PS I know that Ante is of the male species (I didn't want to broadcast it) as I have seen a photo of his, a while back holding something for the camera with a very hairy hand - so there we are!

My get up and go has got up and gone today.
OH got up early to catch the bus for an appointment and saw to the dogs, so I had a very cheeky lie in!
Waiting for the storm. We have some very big trees still in full leaf close to houses and I always worry about them uprooting themselves. One did that just after we'd moved here and it just caught the neighbours and missed us.

I do hope @Liriodendron is ok. Sounds like she will be kicking her heels in Oban, but in a storm. Keep safe, everyone.

Thank you, @Ergates - I am indeed kicking my heels in Oban, but at least I'm well placed to jump on the first ferry which runs. Not guaranteed to be Sunday because the forecast is still for strong winds then. Currently I'm sitting in the ferry terminal, feeling very sorry for car drivers trying to re-book on ferries next week, most of which are already full. At least I'm a foot passenger!

Not tucked up in the library or museum then @Liriodendron?

We had 2 old ash trees felled shortly after moving here @Penny_Forthem as they lost big branches in each storm that first winter and were too close to the house. We had 2 other old ashes checked, over by the pond, and there are plenty more younger ones growing round the boundary. I hope your trees stay put.

It all seems to be skirting by just to the north and east of us - hardly any wind and hardly any wet air, let alone rain. I got my asparagus planted out this morning but have had to net them against the chooks. Very difficult to see what's going on with 2 beady-eyed heads in the planting holes. Same performance when I went to plant out more leeks so I got just 2 rows of 6 done and then put a net round enough soil to let me plant the rest without help later on.

Lots of admin done too including booking my Bernina in for a service next week at Bouaye, just west of Nantes so we'll drop it off in the morningn have a day out exploring Pornic and then fetch it at the end of the day assuming it has no major problems.

Now to see if I can get a rose or two planted without too much quarrying.

Oh dear, hope you’ve managed to get accommodation sorted out, @Liriodendron. Are there buses or trains running, and anywhere interesting to do a day trip to? It did sound from the news that things are going to be shut down for safety.
Very wet here. I should be getting some more car insurance quotes, but I’m going to read my book instead!

It's building up here now. Hope @Bluejayway isn't badly affected and anyone else in its vicious path.
                  That includes you, @Liriodendron.
The trees are not on our property, so we have no jurisdiction in their care. We have fruit trees, but manageable ones.
I've spent time rummaging round the Mountain Warehouse sale this afternoon. Some bargains.
Resisted Farmer Gracey, but...oooh, more bargains?
                  Twolips from Hamsterjam.
Which probably reminds me of Cricket's presents @Ladybird4 .
                  Yay! HIGNFY tonight!

                      Evening folks.

Well I hope none of you have this virus as the headache yesterday was something else, but that seems to have subsided now replaced by feeling really ‘coldy’ this evening. Work was hard going as wearing a mask makes you feel all hot and bothered at the best of times.

Take care folks, especially those travelling or in the path of the storm.

Thanks everyone for your concern... I'm in the backpackers hostel in Oban, a good 40 years older than anyone else here. It's good fun, though! It's a bit wild out. We're listening to the wind whistling through the rotten window frames, and a car alarm going off in the road below where I'll be trying to sleep. At least it's only for a couple of nights...

The library is shut on Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon, @Obelix-Vendée , and it was just too horrible to traipse through Oban to the museum. If it's not too wet tomorrow I might give it a try... at least I won't have my suitcase with me then! And the ferry terminal will be open again, a good place for a quiet read in the warm.

Apparently the road outside is full of flying bins...

                        Keep safe, everyone!

Good evening all. Is it safe to put my head over the parapet I wonder? Both going to the restaurant and returning home the rain was sheeting down. At one stage my friend who was doing the driving slowed down to go through a massive puddle reaching across the road. An oncoming oik made no such adjustment and the little car's front windscreen was obliterated by muddy brown water that even the windscreen wiper couldn't cope with. Luckily it didn't last long as for a split second none of we three could see anything. I was happy to get home. The meal was lovely and the restaurant was beautifully decorated but because there were few soft furnishings to absorb the sounds it was incredibly noisy and it was hard to have any kind of conversation. One obnoxious small person seemed to think screaming at 35 decibels was the way to behave.
I'm afraid that I succumbed to the temptation of Farmer Gracy and I bought some more tiny daffs called Spoirot and some grape hyacinths called Dark Eyes. The special Autumn discount was too irresistible!
I do hope that the unplanned extended part of your trip to Oban doesn't make things difficult for you @Liriodendron. Hopefully there are enough people for you to watch!
@Penny_Forthem Cricket is not very vociferous but he has started to chirrup when he brings me a pressie so its like an early warning now that murder is about to be committed. I have managed to rescue quite a lot of living potential victims and release them when he isn't looking.
Sorry to read you are not feeling 100% @AuntyRach and hope you can shake it off soon.
I am loving HIGNFY despite tonight's presenter. Signing out now and I'll see you all tomorrow.
                            Enjoy your evening.jpg

Good morning all. I do hope that everyone has managed to come through the night unscathed. The high winds woke me about 03:00 and I am not going to brave going outside just yet though collecting the bottle of milk off the doorstep convinced me that there will be little chance of doing much in the garden. Fingers crossed that the storm will have dissipated next week and that @Liriodendron and @Busy-Lizzie's ferries are not affected. Enjoy whatever you have planned for today - weather permitting.

                                Good morning all.

The six hour drive went quite smoothly. Now at Son 1 and family, 3 daughters, near Auxerre. He has booked a restaurant for tonight.

It's very windy and it rained in the night. Forecast is rain until 3pm.

Thank you @Ladybird4. Hopefully the ferry crossing will be OK as it's not until Tuesday.
