The seller's user name looks like the ones used by Chinese retailers.

There's a lot of these, different plants too. The really weird thing I noticed though was that so many of them include the phrase "golden jade carving" in the listing. Here's one for you hosta lovers.

          upload_2025-10-11_13-6-11.png

I just found this AI explanation:

"Golden jade carving" is likely a marketing phrase used to describe the appearance or quality of a particular type of flower or plant, such as Stephania erecta bulbs or lilies, not a type of carving. It is used in online listings to evoke a sense of beauty, value, and aesthetic appeal, making the product seem more desirable to potential buyers.
          • Aesthetic description:
The phrase is used to describe the color and texture of the plant or its flowers, possibly referring to a jade-like color with a golden sheen.
          • Examples in listings:
You may find "golden jade carving" paired with descriptions for plants like Stephania erecta bulbs or lily bulbs.
          • Marketing tactic:
It's a descriptive phrase designed to enhance the appeal of the plant and is not a literal carving.
          • Origin:
The phrase can appear in online sales platforms, such as Amazon UK and Pinterest, as well as in social media groups, like Facebook.
Maybe it works in China, but they're clearly not tailoring their listings for a Western audience.

That hosta is positively lurid! Mind, maybe the slugs would find it discombobulating and it would be safe from chomping. In which case, I'll have half a dozen.

Yes, I looked at a different picture of coloured hostas up close and it seemed like a bad photoshop job.

What's worse with these fake plants is that there are many people out there that are gullible enough to buy them.
