Good evening all. I have just been catching up on all of your news as I was waiting for a delivery which did come rather later than I expected but not to worry. I will be attempting to sky watch soon biut I'm not holding my breath I have to say. My wardrobe is 70% Weird Fish as I love all their stuff. I always find Seasalt a tad expensive but must admit I haven't had a look at their website in a while. I love that jumper you got @Ergates. Right I am off to read now so I will bid you all a good and restful night and see you all tomorrow.
Your pics are lovely @Busy-Lizzie but I already told you that on WhatsApp and how the easyJet Airbus made me yearn for a trip or three!
    Goodnight everyone.jpg

      Hello again!

I've just been relaxing in front of "Repair Shop" after a clean up of the kitchen. OH is a dear, but apparently incapable of being tidy when cooking, even if it's only heating a tin of soup... but it's nice to be home. The runner beans, which I should have taken down before heading off to Scotland, are leaning at a 45 degree angle thanks to Storm Amy, but the rest of the garden is relatively unscathed - plenty of apples on the lawn, though. By the time we'd finished lunch the rain had started, so putting things right in the garden will have to wait.

One nice surprise was that the enormous cosmos (grown from rogue seeds in a packet of dwarf ones) which had produced only buds by the time I left, is now covered with reddish blooms. Must take its photograph when it's light (and dry!).

Agreed, @Obelix-Vendée - no chance of viewing meteor showers or comets with 100% cloud cover. Pity!

I'm not surprised you've had a quiet day, @Busy-Lizzie ! Your holiday looked fascinating, but maybe not all that restful?

I was listening to the radio this evening, when there was a programme about the carbon footprint of clothing. One comment which I remember was that we shouldn't buy anything new which we're not prepared to wear thirty times. Also, that frequent washing of clothes increases their carbon footprint, which I suppose should be obvious, but I hadn't thought of it before...

        Hello Thursday.jpg
Good morning everyone. Oh @Liriodendron I love watching The Repair Shop and those marvellous, talented people who work such wonders on peoples' treasures. I have to have a box of tissues handy too as some of the stories are incredibly moving. That was an interesting report you made about the clothing too and I have to 'fess up to not having thought about that myself. Its hair do day at Bestie's and the hair is ready for it. Naturally there will be hot gossip too. I booked our November 'First Friday' meal yesterday at a new hostelry so we might be doing a bit of menu perusing online. Her daughter (my hairdresser) laughs at us because we decide on what we are going to eat and then when we get to the place we are eating at we often make a totally different choice.
Sadly, though I looked at the sky several times last night, I saw nothing - not even any stars. There must have been the the lightest covering of cloud. I don't think I'll worry about Comet Lemmon's next visit! :) Whatever is planned for you today I hope you have the loveliest of days.

          Morning all!

Glad you feel the same about "Repair Shop", @Ladybird4 . I'd have loved to learn to do repairs to the level of any one of the experts - instead of the "good enough" jobs I usually manage. The one task I undertook which I'm really pleased with, was the renovation of my (47-year-old) son's teddy bear. Having watched the "teddy ladies" on Repair Shop dismantling, washing, lining and darning a similar bear, I took the plunge and gave Mumpy (rather lopsided from birth, chosen by my son at the age of two - he's always been soft-hearted!) a new lease of life.

There's apparently a 3-hour gap between one lot of heavy showers and the next, so I must get my skates on and go shopping - and hope to unblock the gutter as well...

            Good morning all.

We keep having power cuts. They have upset the boiler which now won't work. Repair man hopes to come tomorrow afternoon. Thank goodness for the wood burner.

You are right about my old jumpers @Obelix-Vendée. I don't have hanging baskets any more because of the traveling.

I'm glad you got home safely @Liriodendron. We like to explore and do different things on holiday as we are retired. We can rest anytime - except when the garden calls!

I had better post this before the power goes off again.

Well, we've had a noisy, wet and blustery night with a huge clap of thunder at 5:30 which woke me up but wasn't repeated. Not even a rumble so a fast moving storm. Loads of homes and businesses without power in some areas but not here.

Still blowing a hoolie and lots of squally showers and it's weekly shop day today so I have not yet ventured down the garden to inspect damage. Just a couple of pots blown over near the house but now stashed safely.

Well done for Mumpy @Liriodendron. Possum was not really a bear hugger. Maybe having pussycats on tap helped keep her soft toys safe. Not really a doll girl either.

Hope everyone's safe and dry and that Benjamin has passed on and calmed down.

It's a bit breezy here, but we are not under any weather warning.
Rufus has been to the groomer for an ear and tootsie trim, followed by a bath, which did not meet with his approval! Certainly met with ours when he wafted in!
We have our friends' son's funeral tomorrow afternoon. We have to wear bright colours. It will be a sombre affair.

I hope the funeral goes smoothly @Penny_Forthem though it will be very sad.

I'm feeling much happier now. The power came back and the boiler man came at lunch time and got the boiler going. The wind has dropped and the rain has stopped.

Afternoon folks. I’ve had a busy week and a few late finishes but can see you’ve all been chatty and busy. I was hoping to collect my car this afternoon but the new part was faulty so they re-doing it tomorrow. Annoying.

I’m just having a chillax before thinking about some dinner - I have some nice thin pork steaks so will do them Schnitzel style.

I hope everyone is doing ok and any stormy weather passes through without any dramas.

                      Good afternoon to you all.

Very very windy here today but we have sunshine. Needless to say,Fizz and I went walking this morning - thought I would get blown off my bike. It wasn't very pleasant walking in strong winds. I do hope @Obelix-Vendée and @floralies are not too blown about.

That's a nice bouquet for Thursday @Ladybird4 and I am glad the boiler is back on track @Busy-Lizzie The wood burner is excellent - as long as there is someone to keep it stacked up. The Repair Shop is a great programme but I get too emotional these days.

A quick walk this morning and a quick shop this afternoon at Lidl. I will go to the markets tomorrow for some fresh fish for tomorrow evening. My lovely friend is going to make paella on Saturday, so I will need prawns mussels and some squid rings.

The evenings are drawing in and we "fall" back an hour this weekend. The Southern Hemisphere have already changed to daylight saving a couple of weeks ago.

                      Enjoy your evening everyone.

Afternoon all, it's been wet and windy since lunchtime but not as bad as forecast. Hope everybody else and their gardens are ok.

I managed to half fill a big blue glazed ceramic pot on the terrace with compost, ready for a bare root rose when I get it, probably a Gertrude Jekyll as I think the strong pink colour will contrast well with our pale Bath stone house which also faces south so strong sunshine as well. I'm also trying to decide what colour roses to go in my new rose bed when we take the wisteria down.
There's an existing Blue for You one end and a potted white Desdemona the other, both of which I want to keep - any suggestions please?

That car problem is so annoying @AuntyRach, the last thing you needed after a busy week. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Hope Rufus is getting over his bath by now @Penny_Forthem.
I must confess I dislike being asked to wear bright clothes for a funeral so compromised on a dusky blue linen dress at our recent friend's funeral. I'm old fashioned and much prefer black or navy blue.

That's a coincidence @Tui34, I was thinking about a paella this morning and wondering where I had eaten one, so long ago I couldn't remember.

Glad you're warm and comfy now @Busy-Lizzie, the storm forecast seems to have shifted in your direction so hope all will be well. It's still raining here but the wind has abated.

Good evening all. Hair done to my satisfaction but my poor friend was rather poorly and had tested positive for Covid. Her daughter was clear though so both of us kept well away from her. It was a very cold day despite brief glimpses of sunshine. They both liked the little pumpkins I had knitted for them. Love the story of Mumpy @Liriodendron. As an arctophile I was fascinated (in past programmes) how the bear ladies just used the foam of washing liquid to clean the fur coverings. When/if mine need it I will use that technique.
So Rufus is now all scrubbed, polished and fragrant @Penny_Forthem. I wonder how long that will last.:noidea: I am so sorry to hear about your friends' son. I am sure it will be very sad as it feels 'the wrong order' of things.
Pleased to read that all is warm and happy again in the @Busy-Lizzie household. Late Autumn is not a good time for boilers to cease to function. I think you got @Penny_Forthem mixed up with @Ergates.
@lizzie27 what is your preferred colour for roses to go in your new bed?
@Tui34, your paella sounds delicious. Our hours change this weekend too (that will confuse Cricket!) and I hate the dark mornings and early dark evenings.

No stars here tonight @Ladybird4 as we have clouds but not rain now. May get some clear spells but I'm staying snuggled on the sofa till bedtime which is when I pop out to put down some food for the new outside pussycat.

We're OK thanks @Tui34 with no permanent damage spotted so far, just a couple of pots blown over but they are temporary plastic pots so not surprising and no breaks. I've also had to bash in the netting supports in the veg plot. No power cuts here either.

I don't mind funerals being bright and celebrating a life rather than mourning a loss. Plenty of time for that after the "wake". Hope it goes well @Penny_Forthem

A lot depends on how big your bed is and which way it faces @lizzie27 and do you like simpler, open flowered roses or complex cabbage flowered roses and do you want perfume/shrubby/ground cover/upright forms?

Hope your car gets fixed OK @AuntyRach. So frustrating.

No paella here. Possum never fancies it if asked so i'll just have to sneak one in one day. Tom Yum soup for dinner as it's a thin day. Prawns and lots of healthy ginger, lime juice, chillies but no carbs or chicken.

                              Keep warm and safe everyone.
