    Rainy day morning.jpg
A very good morning or is it? The tap controller upstairs has decided to turn everything on fully. Today is a Canasta Day but the coordinator knows that if it is unpleasant weather then I won't be going. I guess there is still plenty of time to make the final decision though. I have no end of crafting to do if it turns out that rain stops play. I think I will be taking more pelargoniums into the GH this weekend as the temperatures have really fallen quite dramatically.
Thinks: I wonder which clock I will forget to adjust this year. :dunno:

Morning. The best that can be said about today is that it's dry, so far. I will have to find a warmer duvet though.
Must nip to the SM in a bit.
Will be glad when this afternoon is over.

Actually a clear sunny day here, but only 6C when we woke up. Weve headed out for breakfast and our table is in the sun by the window, OH has had to take his cardigan off!
No night sky viewing, as it was raining quite heavily last night. I have some housework to do today, but I have some herbs to put into a trough. My wrist is still playing up so I can’t attack some of the heavier jobs that I’d like to get on with. Our big choisya by the drive is in full flower and smells lovely. There are quite a few suckers rooted nearby, and I’d like to transplant some of them to other parts of the garden. That might take more strength than I’ve got at the moment.
I must also take more cuttings from the aptemia in the hanging basket. All the ones I’ve already taken have rooted in water really quickly, Im hoping to have enough overwintering to replant next year.
Had to laugh at the idea of only buying clothes that you will get thirty wears out of. I’m still wearing things I can remember buying well over 20 years ago. I usually wear everything to death, unless it’s posh rather than everyday wear. One of my evening outfits includes a skirt I bought when my daughter was a teenager, she is now 45!
Hope the funeral goes well, @Penny_Forthem.

My 2 Fair Isle jumpers have arrived from Seasalt. They were in the sale. They fit perfectly and Cedric has paid me for one which he will wrap and give me for Christmas.

I had meant to do some weeding but there is a very nippy breeze so I don't feel like it.

@Ergates I had a look at Fat Face and saw the jumper you bought. I liked it and it's a very good price in the sale but they didn't have it in my size, 14.

              Afternoon all.

Yesterday I got completely soaked, doing a few outdoor jobs "between showers". My gardening coat is still drying out, having been battered by hail, but at least the gutter is clean and the leaning runner beans have been removed. Storm Amy must have been quite extreme at the top end of the veg garden, as it blew woodchip off the path and lifted the groundcover fabric from underneath. I'll find some ex-clothes-hanger pegs to hold it down eventually, but for the moment it's held in place with rocks.

Today's outside jobs - still in between showers, wearing a different coat! - included replacing the bird feeders for the winter, and constructing a Cunning Device to stop the end of the gutter dripping outside our bedroom window, waking us up...

I agree, @Ergates - I also wear clothes until they fall to pieces, and haunt charity shops for interesting items. I'm currently wearing a shirt bought for me by my mother so I could more demurely breast feed my baby (who is now aged 47). It's probably on its last legs, but I like it, and it reminds me of Mum.

Did I mention the enormous cosmos, which have decided to flower at last? Many are lying at unusual angles thanks to the storm, including this one on the lawn. It's brightening up a dull day!

That's a beautiful colour @Liriodendron. Your storm sounds much more extreme than the bits we had, although there's been some heavy rain showers all day. The temp fell to 3c last night according to a friend which was totally unexpected. I'm rueing the bark mulch I spread on the shed path last week, it's one big soggy mass now which clings to my wellies. I remember now that we always used to use our own wood chippings for that path which kept it reasonably walkable and not so soggy.

I've been out to measure up for my new rose bed, once the wisteria is removed, might make a start on that over the weekend, weather permitting. The bed faces south with a 5ft-6ft wall behind it and is only about 3ft wide. There isn't room for 3 roses as I'd completely forgotten about a rose cutting I'd planted last year. I thought it was from the BfY rose the other end but it had white flowers on it this year so I'm a bit confused now. Anyway, OH has suggested more GJ's as that is his favourite and as I like it too, will order some bare roots from Austins - not a bad price to my relief. Might ask my children to buy one each as my Xmas presie!!
Hopefully, the perfume from those and the BfY ones, plus the new GJ on the terrace, will waft upwards towards our table and chairs on the terrace. GJ has the strongest perfume of any of my roses and is a strong upright grower - just what I need.

I'm quite envious of the jumper buying as I can't wear wool at all, find it's too itchy. I'm old enough to remember wearing knitted, woolly swimsuits when I was little so my aversion probably started then. My father had a red knitted one, full body style but sleeveless -very fetching, especially when wet - not!!!

@Busy-Lizzie, I normally wear a size 12 to 14, depending on the style of clothing, but for previous purchases from FatFace, I’ve had to go down a couple of sizes. I’ve just measured the size 10 that I bought, and which fits me comfortably, and it is 40 inches in width. See photo! Might be worth ordering a smaller size if they have one in stock, and risk having to return it? I haven’t washed mine yet, but others I’ve got have washed well. Made in Cambodia.

I thnk it's 30 times, not 30 years @Ergates. I only manage less than 30 if I make something I find doesn't suit me and then it ends up in the gardening pile or charity shop pile depeding on what it is.

OH and I have been to Pornic again, via Bouaye to fetch my lovely sewing machine. We took the sunshine with us but then had a heavy downpour but that was while we were having lunch so OK. We decided not to risk a walk round the coast in case it pelted down again so took a scenic route home.

Still sunny here and 14C but the weather site thinks we've had 15mm in the last 24 hours and thinks we'll have more next week after all. Fine by me. Lots of sewing to do including patchwork homework and a coat for Possum once I finish my new top.

I hope rain didn't stop play @Ladybird4 and that the funeral went OK @Penny_Forthem. Love your cosmos @Liriodendron .

I did mean 30 wears, not years, but they appear to be the same thing for me, @Obelix-Vendée! If I do buy something that I later decide doesn’t suit me, I also tend to use it for gardening, unless it’s in good enough condition to go to the charity shop.
Tends to happen if I stray away from the colours that suit me. Luckily I’m now aware of that. I do remember coming home from holiday with a nice tan, and buying a very pretty apricot blouse. Fast forward to me being back to my usual pastey complexion! The blouse kept coming out of the wardrobe, tried on, checked in the mirror and then returned to the wardrobe! That was sent off to the charity shop. Annoyingly, I’d bought it on a shopping trip with my mother, she bought the same blouse in pale blue and wore it for years, I should have done the same!

Afternoon all. Funny weather day here - sharp heavy downpours preceded by ominous skies, then rainbows!

I have my car back! Let’s just say, good job it’s payday! I have checked in on Dad and bought a cheat’s supper of Chinese bits from the SM as I’m tired, hungry and didn’t have lunch. Looking forward to a quiet weekend now.

I hope everyone is doing ok and has a lovely weekend.

Ouch, that sounds expensive @AuntyRach. I'm cheating for dinner as well, though probably not as healthily as you. I succumbed to temptation in the bakers this morning and bought two steak pasties. OH has been to a Beer Festival with his nephew today (in fact he's still not back!) so I wasn't sure if he will want to eat or not later on. Haven't had a pasty for a very long time.

Enjoy your quiet weekend - time to put your feet up.

I was really pleased when I logged onto David Austin's website, ordered three GJ bare root roses and got a £6 discount for a bulk order - result! As it's apparently Britain's favourite rose according to a recent survey, thought I'd better order early before they run out.

I'm the same @Ergates, think I ought to get out of my favourite colours rut and try something new only to find I don't really care for it after all. Had my 'colours' done once many years ago and I'm definitely a 'Spring' person. Don't like muddy autumnal colours at all.

I’m a winter, @lizzie27, although possibly faded to summer as I’ve got older and greyer! My daughter is more autumn, and can wear all the rusts, oranges and khakis that really drain me. I remember leaving school and swearing I would never wear navy blue again! Guess what, at least half my wardrobe is navy blue.
Which reminds me, I have two wardrobe sections, one of which is blue with a few pinks and reds, and the other contains anything black, brown or green. It was a bit chilly this morning, and I was wearing black cord trousers, so I grabbed a black cardigan out of the appropriate side of the wardrobe. Not till later on, and out in the daylight, did I realise it was actually navy blue. A little thing, and of no consequence whatsoever, but I was really annoyed! I do like to be coordinated!

Evening all. Well the rain eased off so I bit the bullet and went to play Canasta. We had to go through some floods and I was glad that I wasn't driving. I went a little early so I could visit my favourite yarn stall on the market and I got some lovely sparkly wool in 5 colours. These will be used in my crafting for the Christmas Fair. There were only 14 people at Canasta today which is quite a tiny number but 4 of us managed 2 games. Partner and I lost the first and won the second. The rain kindly held off for my return journey so I didn't even have to use my umbrella. I am another who wears clothes until they fall apart. I do not profess to be a fashionista. As long as my clothes are clean (and decent) I am not bothered.
@lizzie27 I remembered a knitted swimsuit that my paternal grandfather knitted for me. Apparently he was a great knitter from his seafaring days but he didn't like people to know and would hide his knitting when anyone called. The costume was, to put it mildly, hideous. When I went into the sea it just got heavier and heavier and slowly stretched downwards and the other thing it did was fill up with sand. Horrid!
Signing out now. See you all in the morning.

That bought back some childhood memories @Ladybird4, I'd forgotten about the sand! As you say, it was horrid. I was so thankful when I was given a bright blue ruched nylon swimsuit, thought I was the bees knees.

Glad you enjoyed the Canasta, didn't get wet and bought some lovely wool. Have a good weekend.
