A few minutes ago I received a Stipa Gigantea that I had ordered from Cowell's, a lovely garden centre that is based in Newcastle (which is relatively close to me, so it didn't have to travel far). I am happy with it.

My new assistant arrived yesterday, having had to give 3 months notice at his last place.
Solid, silent type and as can be seen already settling in as pest controller.

Yes, it will live with the others which have been there several years now protected from the elements. I don't normally like variegated but I like this because of lots of white on it. I am very pleased with it. It is very healthy and has buds too.

I bought myself a new toy. The guy who usually cut the hedge retired and I can't justify paying the prices that everyone else charges.

This is my first ever self trimmed hedge. It's not perfect but it's a lot better than it was. Because of gateways etc, my hedge comes in bits of various lengths.

After spending about an hour or so hedge cutting, I now have a tingling sensation in my left arm and am unable to carry anything in my left hand. It's not a pleasant experience but I'm sure it will pass in time.

Hi @Jack Sparrow maybe put some thick woolly gloves on to reduce vibration next time? You don't want to get Vibration White Finger.

You can get anti vibration gloves @Jack Sparrow I know its another expense but might be worth it next year . It may also you just aren't used to holding the hedge trimmer they are quite cumbersome and you do use muscles that you don't normally use and stretching over it shows usually later on in the day or next.

If you don't mind me asking how much were you getting quoted for that its not very big

Love that @NigelJ - and definitely a Kevin :heehee:
Looks like he's enjoying a game of bowls though...
Hope you're ok @Jack Sparrow. I have an inexpensive hedgetrimmer, and quite a lot of hedging, but I don't think I've ever had a problem with hands/fingers afterwards. Mine isn't very heavy. Perhaps it is just because you're not used to handling/using one as @Perki says.

I think it came out alright. There are also bits of hedge that are not in the photo.
The trimmer cost £40 from Amazon. It is cordless. It's not over heavy either, not that I have anything to compare it to.

It would cost £70 or more for someone else to do it.

                            I've already saved myself £30.
