@Allotment Boy I take your point but, since the 70s, there have been some radical advances in car technology with improved lights, brakes and steering plus all sorts of traffic calming technology and changing attitudes to DUI and speeding. I dare say a campaign to raise awareness in drivers of all vehicles along with reflective clothing for pedestrians would go a long way too, regardless of whether we move to permanent summer time.

There were about 8000 deaths per annum due to road traffic accidents in the 70s. That's down to less than 2000 now.

@Obelix-Vendée , I don't have a firm view either way but I live near London. I just remember the row about it and the protests of people living in the North. Until the coming of the railways, when time had to be set across the country for timetable purposes, all regeions used to have their own local time.
In terms of dark roads and accidents the Scandinavian countries seem to manage with even shorter daylight hours.

Good morning everyone. Last night I felt like Storm Melissa had come my way. It has been horrendously windy all night and my sleep was broken several times. I have been out and checked that my and neighbours' bins are still in place - they are - but the lids were banging in the gusts. Its still dark but I can see leaves blowing about wildly. I do hope it settles so I can get out into the garden later.

            Good morning all.

            Windy here too.

The man who bought the cottage next door showed us what he'd done. He's stripped it all out and found a water leak under the kitchen floor which is why our water pressure is poor and the garden sprinkler doesn't work properly. He's surprised the water board hadn't realised. We had told them about our water pressure. At least it meant the bills were low!

The man seems very friendly. He bought it for his Mum. Don't think he realised quite what a bad state it was in. He's going to do a kitchen extension into the outhouse. He's removed the ugly brick fireplace and found a lovely inglenook with a beam over it. He'll put in a wood burner.

              Good morning to you all!

A windy but not wet weekend. The days are getting cooler. The change of seasons is really under way and my sister who lives in Queenstown, NZ has had a fall of snow!! It is spring there!!

I have a load of manure to distribute onto my vegetable patch and strip of flower garden today. Rain is forecast for later on this week, so if it happens, it will soak it in nicely and I can turn the soil over easily.

I will take the little one out with Fizz and I this morning. It is school holidays but I will be itching to get back and do the garden work!! The clocks are back an hour but I find it easier to adjust to this change rather than the hour going forward in the spring.

I hope you all adjust to it being Monday - make it a good one!!

Good morning @Busy-Lizzie and @Tui34. It will be very interesting watching all the developments at your neighbour's @Busy-Lizzie and hopefully the leak will get sorted by the Water Board. I am sure that Fizz will enjoy the added company of the small person @Tui34.

Morning all, we're still in our PJs having a late breakfast. I didn't sleep well because my shoulder was very painful all night and I couldn't get comfy. OH stayed up to see the GP.
Think I'd better take it easy today, it's a good job I've got a back and shoulder massage already booked for tomorrow.
It's very windy here but sunshiney and looks rather nice. A walk down to the shops beckons.

Enjoy your ride with Fizz and the little one @Tui34.

The restoration of the house next door sounds interesting @Busy-Lizzie, right up my street, I've done three so far and find it fascinating but wouldn't want to do any more now.

Morning all. We have gone out for breakfast, primarily because we needed to get wifi! Our broadband and telephone line went dead last night, and of course our ‘provider’ is closed on Sunday evenings. No mobile signal in here either, but at least I could send them an email to find out what is going on. Evidently their recommended way to contact them is WhatsApp, but I don’t use that.
Really has come home to me how reliant we are on wifi, especially as we have a very weak, often non existent, mobile signal in the house. Luckily I can access the books I have downloaded from the library, but it meant I had to miss a Zoom meeting with friends, and OH couldn’t watch the Grand Prix. Really annoying.
Thanks for the mention of my wrist, @Ladybird4. That’s reminded me to follow @lizzie27’s suggestion, so I’ve just added Volterol to my shopping list! Worth a try. The tubular bandage worked well to start with, but it’s not helping now, and is just making my wrist feel hot and itchy.
Half term here, so noticeably more kids around. Not enjoying the hour going back, as I slept badly and then woke up at 6am, took me a while to work out what that is in ‘old money’! I couldn’t even browse the news or check the weather, grrr.

Good morning. Sunny now after a very grey start but stil a lot of cloud about. I've had a lazy morning reading but am now up and have dolloped a cream cheese and apricot topping on my courgette and apricot teabread for this pm. Experiment so no idea what it will be like.

Now to gather my stuff for this pm then get showered and hairwashed. OH has gone to play the first of his Winter Cup matches. Possum has begun her last week at Bénéteau by taking them "breakfast" - my banana bread and her triple chocolate chip biscuits.

Great news about that leak and the benefits to your water pressure of getting it fixed @Busy-Lizzie . Sounds like he knows what he's doing with the improvements.

Have fun with Fizz and the small person @Tui34. OH fetched me 6 bug bags of compost on Saturday so won't be too happy when I ask for more manure but now is definitely the time to be bunging it on.

Sorry for your broken nights @Ergates, @lizzie27, and @Ladybird4 and hope all aches, pains and noisy bins will not trouble you tonight.

@Allotment Boy The Scandinavian countries do indeed manage their short winter days very well and, indeed, when it comes to social responsibility, seem to manage eveything better. Maybe tme to learn a few tricks from them.

                      Have a good Monday everyone.

Good morning all. I've just found the obligatory clock which didn't get changed on Sunday (on the living room thermostat) - fingers crossed we've done them all now!

Is your wi-fi back on, Ergates? I sympathise with your feeling lost without it. Immediate contact with friends and family is something we've come to rely on. We use WhatsApp a lot, because it's free even for international messages, including photos, and encrypted as well. Saves using SMS messages which cost, and are less reliable... when I go to Scotland and want to contact anyone on the island, including the lady who looks after the cottage when it's empty, and lives a mile away, I have to use WhatsApp because a text message doesn't usually arrive when sent from my Irish mobile. Odd - but perhaps it gets lost, travelling through the ether to Ireland and back before delivery.

Hope your shoulder pain reduces, @lizzie27 , and your wrist improves with Voltarol, @Ergates .

Your new neighbour sounds great, @Busy-Lizzie - glad he found that leak, so you might find watering the garden easier in future. Uncovering old fireplaces is fun! My cousin found a beautiful one behind a hideous 1970s wooden construction, in his old house in Heptonstall, west Yorks. In our last house we found a little fireplace in a bedroom, which was a nice surprise.

I like the sound of courgette and apricot teabread, @Obelix-Vendée ! Hope it goes down well with your group this afternoon...

It's raining still, so once I've finished the vacuuming it's back to the knitting. Nearly finished a winter jacket; I need to block it though, before sewing it up, because it's a bit "curly". But first there are loads of ends to darn in, penalty for using "second hand" wool, from our Knit & Natter "un-knitting" sessions.

Good evening all. I have been busy doing a lot of knitting today - all items for the Christmas Fair.
I was sorry to read about your painful shoulder and the fact it kept you awake @lizzie27.
Gosh @Ergates, what a pain in the bum for you losing your wi-fi. I do agree with @Liriodendron
about WhatsApp though. I use it all the time and the instant connection with my relatives in Australia is marvellous - and all for free. I can recommend Voltarol also as it does work for me

Good morning everyone. Cricket still hasn't got the hang of the hour change and he woke me up this morning with his 'feed me now' expression. The weather (what I can see of it) is atrocious outside so I'm sensing another crafting day here. At least we haven't the horrors of Hurricane Melissa. I will be making tea loaves today - mixed fruit was left to soak in cold tea overnight - so I can get them into the freezer for next month. I find it easier to do them two at a time. I hope you all have wonderful days.

Good morning. Dull, streaky grey here but mild and dry. Bulb planting later but maybe wait a few days for some as it'll be easier to place things when my new perennials order arrives.

Those naughty people have sent me another 50% off email this morning with fruit trees this time and I've succumbed to a plum Prat de Llobregat which is Catalan and can cope with heat and drought as well as normal weather, an Aprikyra which is a cross between a cherry and an apricot so may tempt Possum and a columnar nectarine Fantasia which is self fertile but may encourage the other to flower and fruit.

No crafting for me today @Ladybird4 as it's fine but in the evenings I am doing an Xmas embroidery in time to show the ladies next Monday, along with other goodies, so they can decide on what Xmas projects they want to do and start gathering materials. We have 2 Xmas goodies days at the end of November and start of December.

My courgette and apricot teabread went down well yesterday after some initial suspician about courgettes in a sweet cake. We also had an apple cake made by Martine who also likes to bake but can't afford the calories unless she shares. Never thought of freezing a fruit loaf but I do make them a couple of days in advance so they mature tho my Creole cake for Xmas usually gets a couple of months before we get around to eating it.

                                Enjoy your day everyone.
