I have noticed Cosmos rooting from stems that had fallen over before but thought that as annuals they would not grow from cuttings. However this year the snails ate through the stem of one of my young plants so I popped it in some gritty compost and popped a polybag over it and guess what - it rooted! I have now taken some sideshoots off and put them in so we'll see what happens. m

Just an update - I planted the Cosmos from cuttings and they started flowering late but are still going and standing up to the weather with the help of some sticks and a bit of string. The postman even took a photo of them!
I am definitely going to grow Cosmos again next year. The ones in poorer ground are more wiry and went through the last storm without any support. IMG_20251027_091639_853[1].jpg IMG_20251027_091701_720[1].jpg

I have a white cat called Cosmos after the flowers but have only once had success sowing seed here. Yours look great so I shall no doubt try again with fresh seed next spring.

I did grow some of the smaller orange ones from seed once, but they got eaten, so it put me off trying again.

Yours look fab, @Baalmaiden. :blue thumb:

I did not think about cuttings. I've ordered and received dwarf cosmos seeds to start in the new year. They are quite pricey so if I don't get seeds from the new plants this thread gives me hope that I can avoid having to order them again.

          Thank you!

Having grown cosmos from seed this Spring, and enjoyed the blooms until the effects of the drought brought them to a halt.
I am delighted to report the self sown seeds from them are now producing a great profusion of blooms during the extended warm period. No frosts here yet, no forecast in the next 16 days either....
