Yes, indeed @Obelix-Vendée I was staggered when I saw just how small The Matthew is. Another fascinating story @Penny_Forthem. I remember saying to you on my visit how all these tiny threads interlink through the years and form a web of coincidences and shared experiences. Always leaves me amazed.

        Sleep well.

Good morning everyone and to our friend @Penny_Forthem
          Happy Birthday.jpg
I hope that you have a wonderful day today @Penny_Forthem
Goodness me but the pictures from Jamaica are terrifying. It is so frightening to see the power of nature and no matter how hard people try to brace themselves for the worst of the storm it must be nigh on impossible when some of those winds were up to 185 mph. I watched the film from there showing the whole roof of a house being ripped off - just like it was the top of a ring pull can. I do hope that most people are safe and that emergency supplies can be taken in quickly.

Thank you, Miss Marple aka @Ladybird4
            Yes, another year older!
I received a mystery gift, a calendar by a talented local photographer i follow on FB, but there is no indication of who sent it. No doubt, their identity will be revealed in due course, but it's quite frustrating not to be able to thank them.

Happy birthday @Penny_Forthem. I hope you solve your mystery.

Dull here with wet air and set to pour down later which is fine as we're off to a tea dance this afternoon. The tea is notional - a slice of brioche at 5pm and a choice of coffee or hot chocolate. We can have a free glass of cider and still water at any time. Dancers do need water.

My new plants have arrived but I can't deal with them today so have left them in a cool room in the annex and will sort them out tomorrow when I have all day to play as OH is golfing. That's fine but I shall be on my own with the quarrying of stones in the rose bed so it may be a slow process.

Haven't seen any news yet this morning @Ladybird4 but I share your concern for the people, animals and plants in the path of Melissa. Pity it can't just go and sit over Mar-a-Lago for a few days and teach a certain person about climate change.

Hope the weather is fine for whatever you're all doing today. Have fun and stay well.

                Good morning all.

                Happy birthday @Penny_Forthem.

We are at an eye clinic now. I'm in the waiting room. Cedric needs his second cataract done so he is going for a pre-op assessment. We may have lunch in Norwich afterwards.

It's gloomy and trying to rain.

Afternoon all, it's been wet all day so far, I keep looking out of the window in the hope it might stop but not yet it seems.

People can be so kind can't they? I had stopped for a rest this morning at a redundant bus stop where Openreach were working the other side of the road. One of the workmen then walked across the road to tell me that there were no buses stopping there and when I told him I was just resting because I was out of breath, became very concerned and asked me if I needed any help and was there was anything he could do. He did seem rather relieved when I said I was fine!

                    Enjoy your birthday @Penny_Forthem .

Hope all goes well for Cedric @Busy-Lizzie.

                      Good afternoon to you all.

Blustery with some spits - rain was forecast but it hasn't manifested. So much for getting the manure spread around. I'll have to water it in. It's not cold though.

                      Happy Birthday @Penny_Forthem
Yes, there are still kind and caring people around @lizzie27
I'm going to try a courgette and apricot cake this weekend @Obelix-Vendée I am pretty sure it will turn out all right - especially with a cream cheese icing on top!! Lidl are running a special on small legs of lamb (around a kilo) for13euros99 tomorrow. Lamb is my favourite meat.

I used to do a lot of ironing - something satisfying seeing a pile of scrunch and then all neatly flat and organised. Ironed French linen sheets are a must for a gleeful jump into bed! Mmmm.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

                        Many happy returns, @Penny_Forthem !

Greetings. Another 0n/off rain/sun day, got very wet returning home from Knit & Natter. It'll take a while to darn in all those ends on my winter jacket, but I got some of them done this morning.

When I went out to fill the seed feeder earlier, there was a fair number of long-tailed tits "peeping" to each other from the hedge. They don't use the feeders, though; in our last garden they appreciated the fat cake I made, but when I put some out in a squirrel-proof cage a few years ago, the whole cage was was stolen by rats. I found it in the hedge the next day, minus the fat cake.

I'm sure I ought to be doing something useful but I'm feeling really sleepy - didn't sleep well last night...

We are back from the eye clinic. Thank you @lizzie27. OH is now on a waiting list for a little operation on his lower eyelids as his bottom eye lashes have turned in and are rubbing his eyes. After that, when it has healed, he will have his cataract done.
We stopped for lunch at a local pub on the way home.

We set out to dance in pouring rain and it seems to have been wet much of the afternoon but we didn't care. Had a good time despite a high percentage of strange French "marching" dances and line dances plus musettes that we just never did in Belgium.

Home now, dry, and just about to dine on sticky spare ribs, spiced parsnip rösti and Chinese cabbage - the joys of using up what we have. @Tui34 my courgette and apricot recipe is in an OZ Women's Weekly cookbook. I ca scan it for you if you can't find one online.

That sounds very uncomfortable for Cedric @Busy-Lizzie so please pass on my sympathies and hopes that it will quickly be resolved.

Gorgeous blue sky @Penny_Forthem. Hope it stays that way for you.

Great to be offered help @lizzie27, even if not needed. Hope the natter wa sgood @Liriodendron

                                Have a pleasant evening everyone.
