I was due to go with a friend to our local Costco this morning which meant a drive down the M6. Unfortunately there had been yet another accident near to our junction and the traffic was stacked in every direction so we decided that we had better leave our visit for another time. It has been a windy, rainy day here so I have concentrated on more knitting for the Christmas Fair. Our new quiz season starts tonight but we have a bye tonight so I will enjoy the TV quizzes instead. I've put the knitting needles down for a rest! I will bid you all goodnight and see you tomorrow. Hugs to @Penny_Forthem.

Sending sympathy and hugs to @Penny_Forthem.

We left SIL and BIL this morning and drove to the Ripon area to my friend. We stopped for a light lunch and a walk around in Boroughbridge on the way.

A very good morning one and all. I think it is going to be another wet day today and I am wondering if this Winter will be another dreich and damp one. I know its a bit too soon as we are still in Autumn and some of the leaves on the trees in my garden are flatly refusing to fall but I would really like the Christmas season to at least have some snow. I wouldn't want it staying for long of course but it does add the correct ambience. Need to think about making Christmas cakes soon.

Very grey here. Very pleased with myself, as I put a load of washing on and started the dishwasher before breakfast! Have had a bowl of porridge with stewed apple, and a relatively guilt free browse through the online papers.
No outing planned today. I’m determined to get my sewing machine set up on a newly cleared table in the spare ( junk!) room.
The little yellow chrysanthemums I had in my hanging basket last winter have been languishing in a couple of pots for most of the year. They have now come into their own, covered in flowers and brightening up the steps into the garden. They look very cheerful.
Sounds like you have similar problems to us with your local motorways, @Ladybird4. Every time I look at the local paper, either the M5 is basically a three lane car park in one direction, or both, or the A roads towards Cornwall are at a standstill. Not conducive to any travel plans. Our railway links have been in chaos all summer too. Dried out embankments this time, which makes a change from the usual flooding and landslides, or leaves on the line.

            Good morning all.

It tipped with rain earlier here in North Yorkshire.

We are waiting for my friend to be ready to go to M&S in Ripon then, maybe, Fountains Abbey. She's been feeding her animals, talking to the plasterer and taking her whippet for a walk.

              Morning everybody,
we've just had our usual walk and it's quite warm outside, 15c but the blustery wind appeared to be coming from the east which puzzled us.

I was hoping to get outside and start digging out the wisteria stump but don't feel so good today and a terrific rain cloud looks like it's about to descend on us, so will postpone that job. DA have emailed to say my roses have been dispatched via Evri so I've got another 3-4 days I think.

Enjoy your trip to Yorkshire and Fountains Abbey if you get there @Busy-Lizzie.

My washing machine has just burbled at me @Ergates so my bedlinen is done, better get off my a.. and put it in the tumbledryer!

Good morning. Mix of sunshine and clouds here and dry. Thursday was promising to be wet but they've taken most if it away now. OH will be happy as he's golfing.

My new trees arrived yesterday, in good order as far as I can tell. I've put them on a front step in sunshine this morning and given them a drink. Since then been busy with admin.

We have 44 ladies at patch club and need an Xmas prezzie that suits them all - impossible given we have some who only ever do crochet and knitting, others who only do embroidery and others who will tray almost anything except machine patch. We hit upon a voucher from a local fabric and haberdashery but they have a minimum limit of 25€. Our budget is 10€. Spoke to the manager who will be delighted to do 44 x 10 but then my business card refused to work so I have to go to Les Sables to see the club's bank and get that fixed and that means OH will come and take me to lunch so not a bad thing after all.

Meanwhile, sowing broad beans today and maybe some peas if I can see a vacant spot and working out where my new trees will go - Prunus Prat le Llobregat, nectarine Colonne Fantaisia and that hybrid Quenouille Aprikyra - Aprikyra - Graines Baumaux

Fountains Abbey is lovely @Busy-Lizzie. I hope the sun comes out for you.

More knitting @Ladybird4 ? Hope you get some sun too and yes, I'd like a damp winter that gives the ground a good, deep soaking but don't want grismal every day and certainly no flooding.

What are you planning to sew @Ergates? I find it essential to have separate space I can just close off from helpful felines and where OH only visits with a cuppa in hand. get so much more done if it doesn't have to be cleared away all the time.

Have a fruitful or restful day as needed everyone.

I am clearing the fridge out; taken my eye off it recently and ashamed by some of the offerings. Will take it to the food recycle depot on the way to hub's chiropodist appt.
I managed to book a Christmas delivery slot at Tesco this morning, for the heavy and non perishables, plus a last minute click and collect for anything else.
                  Has anyone heard from @Goldenlily26?

Yes, @Songbird, and she hasn't posted since the week she was doing lots of cleaning ahead of some visitors so I wonder if she's worn herself out or pulled a muscle or something. She was also due to have tests on her heart function I believe.

I don't remember if Goldenlily was on the GW site, but anyway, she might have changed her name, of course. It's a bit of a worry when people "disappear", though she might of course just be having a break from social media... let's hope so. [Just seen @Obelix-Vendée 's post. Glad you remember her from GW days.]

Incidentally, when others highlight my name with an @, I don't get any notification that this is the case. Does anyone?

I'm trying to sew up my enormous winter jacket, knitted except for the collar. I have to sew the raglan sleeves in, before I can pick up stitches & knit the collar. It's definitely the worst thing about knitting...

Hope you feel better soon, @lizzie27 .

I seem to recall (possibly wrongly!!) that she was JoyceGoldenlily on the GW forum.
My delivery of Belton Farm Sage Derby cheese has arrived (a good long life on it, too). Last year I left it too late (they'd run out!) and so I ordered some from a vastly inferior (IMHO anyway) dairy. I might make some Sage derby scones this weekend.

Thanks Liriodendron. Must confess that I felt rather lightheaded during our usual walk this morning but managed to walk about a mile. Not done much since as I thought I ought to be sensible and rest and now feel better after a lovely lunch of hot vegetable soup, bread, Kitkat and an apple. Oxygen levels are still low so I think I'll try the surgery again and see if I can get an earlier appointment.
It's so annoying as I felt fine yesterday and did two 1 1/2 hr stints in the garden.

It's a shame that Goldenlily isn't posting, I miss her entertaining posts on daily life and battles in the garden. I think she's older than me, perhaps about 84 ish?

Good luck with the knitting, sounds complicated.

Didn't realise you had to organise pressies for so many patch club members @Obelix-Vendée but the voucher idea sounds good and if OH takes you out for lunch, so much the better!

I have just braved the town centre in the drizzle as needed a few things. I treated myself to a new perfume as running low. So expensive these days but the parfum lasts a long time so worth it over the toilette. I might have bought some Chelsea buns too.

I hope everyone is doing ok and keeping dry/comfortable/entertained/productive…

@Ladybird4 , you have a Costco out there, interesting. Costco in USA also a store called Sams club, big warehouse of stuff. Been in it once with a free pass. Just too much for me. Its just the two of us, so we do not use it.

Still in Newport, Rhode Island, very windy last night. We reserved a tour bus for the trip about to see a few of the Mansions here. Saw them maybe 15 years ago, but again will see them. Had some nice dinners at a few restaurants here also. Place we are staying has a small kitchen, so could make some meals. Discovering some interesting Farmers Markets.

While relaxing tying down our trip later in November. Looking at some Airbnbs etc. buying ticket etc. Will be a driving trip.
Looks like it for December to February we will be home. Have to organize help with all the leaf removal, or just slowly do it all myself from December to February, I should be skinner.
