    16 here today, too.
Lovely lunch with cousin Hil, reminiscing about Jan. I think OH ate too much (steak, followed by choc pud.) and is now moaning about feeling full. I have little sympathy. It was supposed to be a light lunch. I had a jacket potato, no pud, (is there a halo smilie?) but did bring home 2 frozen cheese and black pepper scones, which will be my supper.
We have both won a bit on the bonds; unheard of to win together. I don't think it'll run to another steak dinner for him.
No fireworks around here...yet. The display on the cricket pitch was dispensed with after covid and I think kids have grown up and moved on.

A dull day, but didn’t rain till this afternoon. Eerily quiet outside. The country roads from our village to Ottery St Mary are closed off to vehicles for the Tar Barrels tonight. ( Got a mention on the BBC on line news today) Revellers will have to walk a few miles in the dark, no traffic in or out of the town, and 10,000 visitors expected.
I have to get some more pictures of our dead tree tomorrow to email to the council. We have to give five days notice before getting it taken down, as we are in a conservation area. I’ve already sent pictures but now they want more!

You seem to have been away from your home for a long time @redstar. You must be quite excited about your return - safe journey.
Is you Bestie another keen GC visitor then @Busy-Lizzie?

There are a lot of fireworks going off around me tonight - glad Cricket's inside. The explosions are making a change from next door's alarm which has been going off virtually all day. I am hoping to catch a glimpse of the Super Beaver Moon tonight - cloud cover permitting. Ante sent a picture earlier from Croatia and it did look spectacular.
          That sounds typical @Ergates

Signing out for this evening. If you are attending any celebrations then stay safe. See you all tomorrow.

No, @Ladybird4 , Bestie had her hair trimmed while we went to the GC to choose tulips for her pots. She isn't really a keen gardener.

Good grief! A somone who has her cut every 2 years and trims her own fringe in between times, guess where i'd rather be.

Hornet man has been and done th edeed but, as it's hanging over the ond, says he won't be back to collect it in case it falls in. Better to wait till they're all dead and decomposing apparently. Just hope it stays up in the tree until the frogs and toads are hibernating.

No gardening on full moon day so i've been pottering about with photocopying and sorting info for our upcoming all day workshops - 5 in a row for various reasons not planned. Should be fun.

One of the newer ladies on the committee is keen to learn about gardening so on Monday she gave me cuttings form her salvia Amistad after I gave her a rather large rosemary grown from a cutting. She has dietary problems and an excess of iron in her body and can't eat pulses but her OH loves them so iIll be giving them spare broad bean and pea seeds and have suggested she try eating young pea shoots in salads and stir fries. Never occurred to her and she's very excited.

Watching Simon Reeve in Bangladesh whilst waiting for Shetland. Depressing, ourageous, appalling and frightening. No-one should be working at less than living wage rates, let alone children.

@lizzie27 any progress with your GPs and breathing?

@Ergates I hope the tree removal goes smoothly despite the little jobsworths.

Good morning everyone. Well the shops will be concentrating on the upcoming festive season now Halloween and bonfire night are out of the way. I can't wait! :doh:I remember in the past the morning after bonfire night celebrations when the air would still be thick with smoke and the scent of many fireworks. I did go out to bring in the milk, it was dry out but I couldn't detect anything. I didn't even get a glimpse of the Super Beaver Moon as the skies were completely obscured by cloud. Off to Bestie's today for a natter session and I'm taking a bottle of 0% alcohol mulled wine - purely for a consumer testing you understand. I have never tried this before but have tested many other types of 0% alcohol drinks and some are very good indeed. I am not TT but I do not drink very often.

Morning everyone. There was a haze of drizzle, firework smoke and cloud last night so no moon seen. Horrible driving home in that too.

I don’t drink alcohol so any recommendations are welcome. I was thinking to try the 0% gin - has anyone tried??

I hope my initial thought that goldenlily has technical issues is correct as if she was in hospital or anything I doubt we would find out. We can just hope that in time she will post again so we can reply to say we missed her.

                      Have a good day folks.

When I looked out of the front window this morning, I thought we'd had a fall of snow! Soon realised that it wasn't the actual white stuff, but dew, sparkling in the sunshine on the cricket pitch.
Having friends over for lunch tomorrow, so going to do most of my prep today; you'll find me in the kitchen with a coffee!

Cloudy last night as the moon rose but streaky when I went to bed at midnight, by which time is was overhead and very bright despite cloudy bits. Bit spooky and ghostly really. No fireworks here, thank goodness, but I expect there'll be some at NY this year.

I like a glass or two of wine with dinner but not every day. Don't do spirits but like a G&T if having curry out in the UK or rosé wine with spicy food at home. Don't do beer either. I shall be making a pot of mulled cider for the garden club plant exchange next Tuesday. After initial suspicion it now has its fans.

Broad bean and pea sowing this pm and then quarrying to prep the soil for perennials and bulbs. OH can look after the SPANC man.

OH is on form at the mo. I asked him to go the pharmacy and get some tonic for the chooks - extra vitamins for winter. Instead he bought the stuff for dealing with parasites and, because it's hard to get without a prescription - unless you know the head pharmacist and she remembers you've had it before - he ordered 2. 26€ for a teeny bottle we don't need. I found what we need in GammeVert GC on the way to the SM. 13€ each for 200ml bottles of vitamins and minerals.

His second achievement is finally deciding to lose his pot belly. I've been telling him for years that his weight may be steady but his belly is not and that's where he's storing all the nasty fats around his vital organs and that can lead to all sorts of problems. What has changed? Possum read him a riot act on Monday. Fine by me but Humph all the same.

Let's hope @Goldenlily26 is OK and just having technical problems. If not, let's hope she's been referred for treatment for all her problems.

                          Have a pleasant afternoon everyone.

Yes, I am excited to get home. Our next travel will be November 23 to get down to our airbnb and then to Georgia for Thanksgiving. As it stands we should be home most of December to March. Yeah.

Yes, we take our riding mower out and mow and suck up the leaves in the baskets to take to the woods to dump in rotating areas. Or I use the blower to blow them in long lines, and use the tarp to drag to the woods, depends on my energy level. Trying to find some help here. I am going to post a picture of our front property here, just imagine it all be covered by leaves, and notice the amount of trees. For measurement sake, from the front door to the road it is 100 paces. Front of house..jpg

It’s been another mild day here today. Mostly overcast, but it remained dry. There was definitely that morning after bonfire night atmosphere here this morning, with mist hanging over the fields, as we had a lot of fireworks being let off all around us last night. There didn’t seem to be much in the way of actual bonfires, though.
After Pilates this morning I got into the garden and planted the spring bulbs I’d bought earlier - a mixture of tulips, daffodils, hyacinth and puschkinnia. I’m hoping they will all take and give a pretty spring display at the top of the front garden. I’ve planted the tulips as deeply as recommended and hope the rodents don’t dig them up :fingers crossed:
