Thanks, we are lucky. The back garden also goes 100 paces from our back door to our property line, beyond our property line is nothing but protected woods. Our house sets back behind any of the houses to the right or left of us. We are on 3 acres. I tell folks I could stand on my back deck naked and no one would see me, LOL. There is also a creek running on the back property line at the 100 paces. So lots of water for birds, etc.

BTW the two white trees seen in the picture on each end of the house they are Star Magnolias. The large group of shrubs to the right is a gathering of Rhodos which bloom later.

Lovely property and grounds @redstar, must take some upkeep.

It's been another sunny and warm day so after our usual walk, we tackled the wisteria root and stump removal which turned out to be on the large side! Took a lot of effort from OH with a pickaxe and crowbar as it was beyond me. The roots were strange however being long, smooth but quite soft and pliable. Not come across that kind before.

I must confess I haven't phoned the surgery yet as I feel ok this week and my oxygen levels have gone back up but I will chase the GP if I have another episode.

We heard some fireworks but didn't see or smell any bonfires this morning. Sadly I think the media are right in saying Bonfire night is losing it's significance and Halloween is taking over.

I suspect more people know about Diwali and fireworks than why we have Bonfire night @lizzie27.
I do think it's time noisy fireworks were banned. They're horrendous for wildlife and pets, some children and people with PTSD especially ex soldiers and it is possible to have all the lovely lights with silent fireworks and/or drone displays now.

We have had our SPANCing and passed which is a relief as, if we'd had to replace the part that failed at first inspection we'd have had to do the entire system which would be up to 13000€. Yikes! Good for 10 years now.

Managed to get some pea and broad bean seeds sown and do the necessary with the chooks and their vitamins and minerals then took more cuttings of salvia Belle de Nantes. Will do Royal Bumble and a pinky red one tomorrow plus some more blue ones with silvery grey foliage. Love salvias and they do well here.

Possum is at yoga class so we haven't had dinner yet. Getting hungry now but it's a thin day so hot and sour chicken soup with some mung bean vermicelle noodles. Tasty.

          Have a cosy evening everyone.

Good evening everyone. It has been a busy day for me today. Had a great time with my Bestie this morning. Plenty of hot gossip and menu scrolling for our first Friday lunch tomorrow. We just do that out of habit as - like I've said before - we change our minds completely when we get to the venue. I have done some more prep for the Christmas Fair too. Things are progressing. I was surprised to hear more fireworks here tonight but it has actually been a lovely day today - more like Spring than Autumn.
Pleased to read that all went well with your inspection @Obelix-Vendée as that would have been a phenomenal amount to find. @lizzie27 has the wisteria finally been defeated or is there still some to go?
I am signing out now and wish you all a good night. See you all tomorrow.

A very good morning one and all. I was convinced this morning that it was a thick, foggy day when I first looked out of my windows but on close inspection I realised that the outsides of the windows were completely covered with condensation. Yesterday when I drove to and from Bestie's I was impressed with the wonderful leaf colours on the trees and shrubs - still hanging on with this mild Autumn we are experiencing. I wonder just how much longer this will be the case. Bestie's garden was filled with flower colour to. It definitely didn't feel like November. Looking forward to lunch today.

                Good morning all.

We came back from Yorkshire last night. It was later than we meant as my friend got an appointment to have her eye lasered as her cataract op left her with cloudy vision so we took her to the clinic in Harrogate. We had a quick look around the town and had some lunch while we waited for her. We had thought we'd leave in the morning. The friend she was going to ask for a lift had gone away for a few days.

                It looks grey outside.

We are going to the SM today.

We didn't hear any fireworks in Yorkshire as my friend lives in a farmhouse in the middle of countryside on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

                    Good morning all.

Hope your "good Samaritan" actions for your friend didn't result in too late a return home, @Busy-Lizzie .

It's very mild here too, for November; 15C for the past few days, and warm at night too - but not gardening weather, since the rain is relentless. The river has burst its banks, flooding the water meadows, and Loch Derg is increasing in size.

We have to be in Limerick this afternoon to have our photos taken, for the sleeve of the vinyl record made recently by our choir. Must remember my hairbrush! I'll be returning home by bus, while OH stays on for a rehearsal for another choir he sings in. I should be home in time for Gardeners World...

                    Enjoy your lunch, @Ladybird4 !

Good morning. It's warm here, dry and quite bright tho cloudy. Rain coming this pm so I'm on salvia cuttings this am and sewing this pm - Possum's new caot and then some patchwork homework. I have a machine patch class coming up and some ladies have asked for Sashiko after seeing me finishing on last Monday. That'll have to wait till next year tho. Full programme this year.

I never get to see GW "live" @Liriodendron but have it recorded to catch up and repeat as needed and keep if there's something of particular interest, usually Adam or a really good garden visit. Hope the photo session goes well.

Enjoy your lunch @Ladybird4 and all the natter.

A quiet day seems in order @Busy-Lizzie after all that driving.

We hadn't wanted to drive in the dark @Liriodendron but we got back at 7.30. The journey took longer than expected because of roadworks and a closed lane on the A1 because of an accident. I put the heating on and Cedric lit the wood burner then we had baked beans on toast with cups of tea.

Off to the SM soon for fruit and veg etc soon.

A day at home, as it’s grey and damp out and we have jobs inside to do. The Outreach man turned up this morning to explore our internet cable. They have identified that the break is under a big Scot’s Pine in the front garden, so they are going to run a new cable across the lawn. The temporary fix is working fine, although a bit slower. Doesn’t seem to be affecting us though.

It was very foggy here yesterday but we did go out, as I needed stuff from the supermarket.
I haven’t tried the 0% gin, @AuntyRach, very put off by the price! However, many years ago when pregnant, I used to buy juniper berries from the supermarket spice shelf and crush a few into a glass of tonic water. Maybe worth trying that, with a few suitable herbs muddled in?

Hi all, we seem to get non-stop fireworks from Diwali to mid November, plus the odd spradic ones probably for birthdays etc. Not my immediste neighbours thank goodness but no escape all the same. The Diwali ones seem particularly loud even doble glazed winfows seem to rattle

My wrist is still playing up, so after 5 weeks, I thought I would try and get it looked at. Our GP practice is now offering appointments with a doctor, to book on line, for the last week in November. I’d already decided it could be useful to get an appointment with their musculoskeletal physio initially, so I rang the practice yesterday. Offered a choice of appointments on Monday! Wow!

I didn't know that fireworks were now restricted to 7 am to 11 am most days but I don't suppose in London in particular, people abide by the rules. We haven't heard that many fireworks here so it doesn't bother us over much.

Yes, the wisteria is sadly no more @Ladybird4 - unless it strikes back next year from one of the roots we haven't been able to remove!

We got back from our usual walk, had coffee with our Friday treat of cakes, then OH got the sacktruck out to bring down sacks of our own leafmould, compost and bought in specialist rose and shrub compost to the old wisteria bed. I roughly raked it all in and will leave it to settle. My new roses are on their way.
Will now have to rename that Bed but I've already got a rose bed in the back garden so it might have to be the Front Rose Bed and the Back Rose Bed.

It's OH's birthday today so I'm taking him out to dinner at our favourite local pub which isn't far away. My son is also on his way up to stay for a couple of nights - surprise, surprise, the rugby's on tomorrow! It will be lovely to see him as always.

Glad you got back OK @Busy-Lizzie. I don't drive in the dark any longer either, hate the bright headlights.

                                Have a good Friday folks.
