Same here @Logan and I really, really need to do some weeding.

Glad you're pleased with your new fencing @Plantminded.

        Hi,

It turned wet just before I loaded five heavy bin bags of couch grass rhizomes into the car so the bags were running with water but I was pleased to empty them into the skip at the tip; they won't be popping up in my garden again but I've still lots to dig out; what fun I have. Heavy rain forecast again for tomorrow.

I found more pieces of the clay smokers pipe today; I wonder if I inform the Archaeological Association they'll send a team to dig the garden over for me.

        Kind regards, Col.

Carted the pots with the tatty dahlias in down to the greenhouse where they can now dry out.
Cut down the chilli plants and then moved a lot of waste down to the compost heap.

After the rain had stopped at 1pm yesterday, I went into the garden and dug out one of the two grasses and split it into two. I planted one back in the same place, and the second half into the bed in front of the bench. It took me almost an hour to get that lump sawed through.
Originally, I intended to wait until Spring, but I'm slightly irritated by the flowering plants around us. We might get again a frosty April/May as in 2021 and I don't want to go through that time again. Grasses are less sensitive and hopefully both will settle in again.

Worth a try with the Archaeological Soc.@Retired but I think we know what the answer would be!
Good to get that job done at this time of year @Plantminded. Really needs a dry day for that sort of job, whch can be tricky.
I only did a few bits and pieces yesterday, mainly the edging round the little green roof, but I've done something to my right arm/elbow and it's painful to do anything requiring lifting anything, especially using power tools. Such is life. Other than that, filling the feeders, Cutting back some planting [toadflax and nasturtiums] under the bedroom window and some deadheading. At least it was a pretty dry day, so the forecast from the end of last week was more accurate than the recent ones...
Today has a weather warning for rain, so I'll be inside apart from getting the barnet cut later.

                Hi,

Thanks @fairygirl I'm sure the Archaeological Society would have a good laugh. :)

It's so easy to pull something whilst engrossed concentrating on a job; I hope after a nights rest you're feeling a lot better.

It's going to be at least 2pm today before I can surface and charge my batteries; heavy rain again and another black hole. With all this darkness and the manure fed to me by the media I should be 10' tall like forced rhubarb.

                Gardening isn't an option today but I've become involved in an unwanted problem. A guy called Darren living nearby shouted to me from the lane adjoining my garden yesterday morning whilst I was being unfriendly towards couch grass. I broke off and climbed up the garden to the wall. Darren told me there had been a huge gas & water leak preventing his driveway being used so his wife had been parking her car along the cul-de-sac where I live; on Sunday her car drivers side door mirror had been damaged and does my CCTV reach the head of the cul-de-sac; yes it does so last night I checked footage;

Fight on street 9 Nov 2025.JPG
There was a fight right against the door mirror at 17:18hrs. The CCTV is the best available and this is a picture taken using my camera on my 50" TV; the CCTV company can easily identify the reg no of the car with the headlights lit. I don't fully understand how to use this complicated CCTV system; I'm aware I can add a square to highlight a smaller area but I struggle even using a TV remote.

Today I'll pass on the details to Darren and let him take it up with the CCTV company; I'm working on a new DIY principle DON'T INVOLVE YOURSELF. I'm the only one with CCTV along the street and it's strange that whenever there's a problem my CCTV is wanted but yet the ones wanting the help won't install their own CCTV; the police also have been here taking video footage in the past; the police are very welcome. From the first CCTV installation about seven years ago and the upgrade about two years ago the CCTV has cost £3,800 and is worth every penny for peace of mind.

I deposited 5 bin bags of couch grass rhyzomes at the tip yesterday and I'm keen to deposit more but the weather is dire; I want to get the middle meadow cleared before the cold weather arrives; the top meadow can wait until next year.

I'll force myself to have a violin practice today.

                Kind regards, Col.

We find those clay pipes in our soil and used to clean them up and put them in a pot to keep. Until one day I thought why am I collecting these and I threw them in the bin.

Our garden used to be a farmer's field and along side there was and there still is evidence of a WW2 track up to a gun armament in the next field. I have found old aerial photos of the buildings, but no literature at all. Maybe it's still secret. We get large lumps of concrete under our lawn as they made the road out if it.

I was lucky with the weather yesterday @fairygirl. I'd been planning this work for a while to follow the annual trimming of my neighbour's lovely laurel hedge :thud:. It looks a bit severe at the moment but once painted it will recede. The chain link fencing was collapsing and allowing the hedge to impose further, now I don't need to trim the lower half on my side, plus my neighbour's cat will need to find another route .

After a fortunate break in the weather yesterday. Today was windy and wet, but I did plant 30 Baby Moon narcissus bulbs in pots vacated by tatty dahlias.

                          Hi,

Me = 1 Met office = 0. Rain was forecast again this afternoon; doing the dishes after dinner and looking out it was very gloomy but not raining. I donned my old clothes and headed up to the top end of the middle meadow and got stuck into the couch grass battle front. There's a strong breeze adding a chill but I had my heavy "site" coat on and what a massive difference it made pulling the coat hood over my baseball cap; I now had my own tiny pleasant environment to work in and forgot about the weather for an hour and a quarter; it's now too dark to carry on but amazingly no rain. whoopee. :yahoo: Time now to do the ironing which I find to be therapeutic.

                          Kind regards, Col.

Got to the Allotment this morning. Finally got the new Raspberry canes in. Also picked the last few handfuls of tomatoes in the greenhouse before I cut them down. I removed one set of the quadgrow pots and tanks, prepped the ground and planted mizuna and mixed mustard greens, from their plugs. They were really overdue to plant out hope they will be ok.
Rather annoyed, my newest metal watering can seems to have sprung a leak. I bought it a couple of years ago to replace a plastic can that had gone brittle and was breaking up. Luckily neither were expensive, top line brands, not worth risking at the plots.

                                Hi,

Heavy rain forecast again for tomorrow. Grrrrrrr. I hope Yorkshire Water has put the plug in Scammonden Dam?

I bought a brand new small pressure washer to use on the car; no sooner did it arrive than a hosepipe ban was enforced and will be enforced for some time yet. :wallbanging:

                                Kind regards, Col.
