I have just had a crown come loose @Penny_Forthem and have absolutely no intention of going back to the eejit that fitted it as he has left me with other problems so now I have to find a new dentist. That'll be fun.

Still dry here but Saturday night and Sunday morning promise to be very wet. Fingers crossed.

An apple shaped figure does look better in something looser, @Busy-Lizzie. Do you have a nice necklace to draw the eye upwards away from the waist, although you will be the only one noticing what you think are defects in your shape. A dark green velvet dress was always on my wish list, you will look gorgeous!
Which tooth have you had treated, @Penny_Forthem, a front or a back one? £695 is certainly more than the NHS charge for a course of treatment that includes a crown, but that includes a metal crown on back teeth.
Maybe she has suggested a white coloured crown ( porcelain bonded onto a metal base) but didn’t make it clear that this would have to be a private option ( which she should have) Were you given a sheet of paper with a treatment plan on - that should list the crown as private treatment?. Of course it might be a gold crown, but I think they would cost even more than that now!
Gold is the best, doesn’t react in the mouth, and can be adapted at the edges to ensure a really good fit, so less chance of secondary decay. Porcelain bonded crowns look better and many people prefer them.
I actually have two NHS metal crowns in lower back teeth! I have a very hard bite, and am inclined to grind my teeth at night. The metal crowns are easier to grind down if they are a bit ‘high’ and interfering with the bite - useful in my case! Porcelain is less forgiving, so the shape and design has to be spot on, as they are less easy to adjust.
My back teeth have been heavily filled since I was a teenager, and as they may give up the ghost anytime now, I opted not to splash out on gold crowns. Id be worried I wouldn’t get my moneys worth out of them at my age! I did make OH have one over a root filled tooth, but he was only in his 40s then. It is still going strong!
The metal crowns might make someone think of Eastern European dentistry, but they aren’t very visible unless anyone gets much nearer than I’d be happy with! I’m confident that they will see me out. Hope that is helpful?

Thank you @Ergates, about the dress.

My son is a dentist in France. He specialises in implants. Most of my friends there go to him. They tell me he is wonderful!

@Penny-Forthem, I think £695 is about what I paid per crown earlier this year or thereabouts at my private dentist. Mine are zirconia.

Don't forget about the VAT. The dentist should have given you a written quote for private work.

          Hope this helps.

My brain hurts, we've just been watching Shetland and I can't keep up with all the red herrings!

          Off to bed, night all.

Good evening all. Another teary episode of Repair Shop tonight. Awesome work by all the specialists involved this evening. I have been knitting and my right hand is nearly seized up with arthritis. Cricket brought in a little pressie for me - a wee mouse. Sadly it was already beyond saving. Glad Rufus is recovered @Penny_Forthem but that is an eye watering cost for your dental treatment. The Dentist who I saw for over 30 years retired during Covid and I had a dickens of a job trying to find another one but as I was a private patient I finally got accepted at the practice in the village. They were not accepting NHS patients. As I said yesterday, whether there has been some new order from higher up who knows but I am now being treated as an NHS patient. If I needed anything major doing I'm not sure that would still be the case. Fingers crossed. Pleased your eye appointment went well @Busy-Lizzie.
Going to wish you all a good night now. I've got Food Bank duty tomorrow so will be leaving early to pick up my Bestie. Catch up with you all later in the day.

                  Good morning to you all!!

Same old. Same old but today being Thursday is shopping day - it will be parsimonious as I slept
badly last night. Had both flu and covid vaccinations yesterday. Woke at 3.15am and just couldn't find that sleep zone again. R & R this afternoon.

@Ladybird4 we have the same affliction from knitting except that it is my left forearm that is painful and right thumb and wrist!! I have completed my second attempt up to the armholes. I have been knitting most afternoons for a few hours on 168 stitches! All in one piece! I dug up some arthritis gloves that is meant to keep your thumbs straight - left one good. Right one useless!! I will finish the garment and give knitting a rest!!

@Busy-Lizzie I agree that a dress that is a little bigger is better than folding around your tummy and riding up! Pearls would look nice against the green velvet.

I hope you all have a pleasant day.

Haven't watched Shetland yet as there was nowt on after dinner so I decided to edjumacate Possum about old westerns and played a recording of The Big Country. We'll catch up on Shetland this evening after her yoga class.

OH is out golfing today at St Jean de Monts which is 2 hours away and Possum has class so I am pottering on my own today - bulbs, maybe moving some geraniums which are being swamped by a tree mallow that has gone beserk and is flowering its socks off and I need to find a home for some ornamental grasses - Japanese imperata and others whose names I forget just now.

Not really a grasses fan but am told I should try. I had several miscanthus in my Belgian garden and they survived the winters but tended to stand like stiff sentries except for when they had flowers and I hated the stubble when they were cut down for the new growth. Anything softer just got blasted by the winds or the deep winter frosts. Here I can grow gaura Whirling Butterflies which gives movement and is pretty as well as good for pollinators.

Hope the food bank goes well @Ladybird4 and you have lots of chat. I still take a turmeric and black pepper supplement to help with my arthritic tendencies and use both in cooking curries. My finger joints are swollen but not painful tho they do sometimes lock. I do exercises to keep them loose. Maybe that would help you too @Tui34.

@Ergates after eating a rogue peanut which broke 2 lower molars I ended up with two porcelain crowns at 1000€ each in Belgium. I already had one up top on the other side after a perforated sinus damaged the root and, another time, the jaw itself so eventually that crown failed and they quoted me 2000 for an implant. The crown that has failed is metal and was needed after the dentist here decided to replace all my old fillings but the remains of the tooth crumbled afterwards. Not going near him again. crowns here are now covered by standard health care and they offer metal for back teeth and porcelain or some such for the visible ones.

                        Good morning all.

@Tui34 I was planning to wear my pearls with the green velvet dress. Cedric bought them for me on the Porto Vecchio bridge in Florence. Mum was going to leave me hers but they were stolen when my parent's house was burgled.

I much prefer Gaura to grasses @Obelix-Vendée. I have several in my French garden.

Our log delivery arrived early when we were still in bed, drinking coffee and reading the papers on our phone. We threw on some clothes and moved our cars from the drive. Stacking logs is what I'll be doing when I've finished this post. I was amazed at the price of logs, double the price of logs in France, but Dordogne is very forested.

It's a lovely day so far. Sun is shining, sky is blue. The washing is on the line.

Friends are coming to dinner tonight. Main course will be poached salmon with a tarragon velouté sauce, new potatoes, runner beans and sweetheart cabbage.

I should have asked you experts on here how to deal with my wrist! Sounds like a few of you have plenty of experience! The physio I saw recommended a thumb immobiliser, and I managed to find one from a company in Hampshire, came in two days and no postage charge! It does seem to be helping, it does stop me doing the painful movements that set it off. I have also put turmeric and black pepper capsules on my shopping list, @Obelix-Vendée. I’m pretty sure I caused my injury lifting my iPad at a funny angle, but it won’t hurt to take some preventative measures.
I’m not a fan of ornamental grasses. We have too many clumps of overgrown wild stuff, I’d have to label the fancy ones to differentiate them from my sloppy gardening!
Can I come to dinner, @Busy-Lizzie? Sounds delicious! We are sharing a chicken and bacon club sandwich at the Donkey Sanctuary. It was supposed to be sunny today, so we are planning to have a walk. It’s rather cloudy though, but we will still have a trek round while we can. We have a weather warning for Storm Claudia tomorrow, so we will stock up at the supermarket on the way home.

Storm Claudia is a puzzle @Ergates. It's coming up from Spain but seems to be bypassing our bit of the coast along western France so no strong winds expected - so far - and rain a mere 1.4mm on Friday and Saturday. Mild too with temps in double figures, even at night. However, the wind will then swing north and we'll be going into single figures.

Cinnamon and ginger are also good anti-inflammatory spices you can add to puds and cakes. You need the bioperine in black pepper to absorb full the active ingredient in turmeric.

@Ergates , your wrist, -----might have not mentioned it, but last September 2025 I tumbled and broke my wrist, it was a mess. they said the worst they ever seen. 2 surgeries, one to put the plate in and line things up, 2nd to take the plate out after healing. Had to wear a caste almost up to my elbow during this time. I went to Physical therapy 3X a week to get things moving during this whole time, fingers etc. Today it feels like a hard bracelet is surrounding my wrist.
Take Turmeric with pepper is a good thing, I do for my arthritis. Add to your list very dark "real" chocolate, like 80% Real chocolate is said to help stimulate stem cells to go to heal certain areas. Ask your Physio how long during the day you should keep the immobilizer on, my person, after my 2nd surgery was keen on taking it off, to get the flexibility going, even with driving the car, she wanted me to dive without the caste. I have some hope that the cartilage will grow back. Do have days where its stiff, but other days not to noticeable. I am still weary on too much poundage on wrist.

I'm having a run of awful nights and wonder if it's to do with the solar flares disrupting my circadian rhythms. It's a thing, apparently.
We're in for a cold snap next week. Been reading about the Sudden stratospheric warming - could make for interesting times ahead, weatherwise.
Had a lovely light lunch out with friend, Sue; there was a young lad (2ish?) at the next table and I could see her rolling her eyes, but he was as quiet as a mouse, ate all his lunch and ended up with some films on Mum's phone. I complimented him as we left.
Thanks for the dentist advice. I asked her to write down what it would cost and she just wrote the price, no details, so further investigation is required.
