A very good morning one and all. Just seen some horrendous pictures of areas affected by Storm Claudia. I feel so sorry for the people in these flooded areas. Some definite warnings about cold temperatures this week. Deep joy!
I think @Penny_Forthem's excellent clues led me to Elton John.
p.s. I meant to say to @Tui34, sorry for your team - not! :yay:

Such a lazy morning here. I made pancakes for breakfast, with stewed apples from a friends garden. Not done much else apart from reading the papers. I must make up for this during the week! Hope all are having a good day, and that @Busy-Lizzie had fun at the party, and felt both glamorous and relaxed in her new dress!

I’d never have worked that out, but wow! We were on holiday at a venue where Hugh Laurie was also staying. I did try very hard and managed not to stare (or drool!)

                Hello all.

We are on our way home, 1hr15 to go. We stopped at the huge IKEA at Lakeside on the way. There were a lot of people there and a lot to look at. I enjoyed it. Cedric bought me a sauteuse frying pan. I have one in France and I love it. We bought meatballs, biscuits and the Swedish style herrings in sauce that Cedric likes.

Thank you all for your good wishes for the party
We had a lovely time until the loud music started at the end of the meal. I enjoyed the canapes time at the start before we sat down. We met some nice people and could talk. Then we sat down for the meal. Main course was roast lamb but it was tough with gristly bits. The chocolate tart was really delicious. Then there was 60s and 70s music from a jukebox. I liked the music but it was so very loud, conversation was killed. Some people danced but I don't really care for dancing as I can't keep in time and feel awkward. It was good to see my friends again and their children who used to play with my children when we were young. I think I'll wear the dress on Christmas day.

That is such s shame that the music was so loud @Busy-Lizzie, I do so hate that and wonder why the organisers allow it. I once walked out after a very posh gala dinner when the music started, it was really painful.
Your dress will be just the ticket on Christmas Day. It reminded me that I have (somewhere) a navy blue velvet dress with a navy lace back and long sleeves. I think I've only worn it twice in the ten years or so since I bought it.

OH got back from his rally event at lunchtime, shadowed by his friend as OH was having trouble with his car, including an impromptu stop on a roundabout at Newbury. His friend had to parallel park by the side of his in order to jump start the Austin - so glad I wasn't there! His friend stayed for lunch then left to go home to Essex, a 4 to 5 hr trip at the best of times but on a Sunday on the M4 and M25 he'll be lucky.

It was colder this morning but I made myself go out to sweep yet more leaves off the paving, they'd dried out a bit overnight.

Hope @Penny-Forthem and any others are ok after Storm Claudia.

Evening everyone. I hope you’ve all had a decent weekend. Quiet one here but needed. Chicken dinner cooking away now.

Loud music is definitely a conversation killer @Busy-Lizzie - difficult to get the balance but a party is for catching-up as well as dancing etc!

The awful flooding in Monmouth isn’t that far from me. I’m glad I live on a hill! I hope everyone there and anywhere else with flooded or damaged homes is ok.

Here’s to a good week ahead folks.

Good evening all. I decided when I got back from Church that I would risk a wash load as it was actually quite bright and sunny. No warmth in the sun though. As soon as I had finished pegging out, the sun disappeared and it almost looked like it was going to rain. So far it has remained dry but oh my the temperature has crashed. It is only 5°C outside now and due to drop to 1°C in the night. Signing out for this evening. See you all tomorrow.

We were supposed to get drenched today but didn't tho it was wet overnight. I've been on patchwork homework anyway as well as making crème brulée for pud tonight after our usual slow roast belly pork.

OH helped me move a huge pot of strelitzia indoors as we're both out all day tomorrow and Monday night is forecast to go to 4C - not good for the flower buds just starting to open. Had to reorganise the houseplants to make space. We've also moved the fuchsia pots to the polytunnel along with a few other pots that are now either in the polytunnel or clustered with the other outdoor nursery pots.

Glad you enjoyed your party @Busy-Lizzie and, whilst I love dancing, I too find music which is too loud is painful. I like the sound of your dress too @lizzie27

Glad too that you are dry @AuntyRach and hope all your loved one are OK too.

                          Sweet dreams all.

Good morning everyone from a cold north west. Its only 2°C outside. I will be hanging around like one o'clock half struck today wondering if the VM engineer will finally make it. Quizzing tonight - another new team to the league - so I better start thinking about warmer gear.

5C here this morning, but the sun is out so we just had to head out. I’ve worn a jumper but I’m sitting by the window in the restaurant and I’m almost too hot! OH is down to shirtsleeves. It’ll be a different story once we head out for our walk, but I have gloves and a woolly hat, so I’ll be fine. Visiting my friend in the village this afternoon, will be lovely to catch up and have a good chat.
I’ve cut some sprigs off a couple of salvia and stuck them in water, hoping they will root. I’ve never been very successful at taking cuttings in the past, I usually end up with a collection of dead twigs in pots of compost. I’ve had better success with rooting things in water. My fuschia in a pot usually dies down and gets banished to the ‘hospital’ round the side of the house. I’m always surprised to find new shoots sprouting up in the spring. I’ll try a few cuttings from that as well. I’ll have to have a browse through the other parts of the forum for extra advice on what might be worth doing before the winter really sets in. I don’t have a greenhouse, so most stuff will have to survive without much help.
Hope no one is going to be badly affected by the oncoming cold snap. The flooding has been bad enough.

Morning all, I'm being lazy @Ergates, sitting here in the sunshine whilst OH walks to the paper shop. He was in such a rush earlier to get to the GP's for his annual health screening, he forgot to take the sub ticket with him...durrr.

I'm just having a coffee and waiting for it to warm up a bit (8c outside) before sweeping up yet more leaves. I'm hoping they will be drier this morning.

Glad I don't live up north @Ladybird4, couldn't cope with your temps, I'm such a wimp! Enjoy your quiz night.
