Morning. I think we had a frost (looked like it at 7.30, when I peeped through the curtains!). All vanished now.
Some concern as to whether my cousin, H, will make it to our other cousin's funeral on Wednesday. Snow is forecast and she lives on a very exposed hill in Denbighshire (amazing views!). We should be OK, as the service is in our village church. Just have to play it by ear.
Just waiting for Tesco, then I can crack on with jobs.

Glad you're ok @Penny_Forthem, did you get any damage from the storm? Hope you and your cousin make it to the funeral ok on Wednesday. My condolences to you both.

        Good afternoon to you all.

Bright and sunny with a nice breeze to sweep the clouds away. The temperatures are set to plummet here too so the heating will come on. I have sussed out my electric blanket and it is outside in the sun getting aired.

Yes @Ladybird4 Gloat you may!! The English Team have a very good defence system with great forwards and their method worked on Saturday. The Blacks will need to think about that. Every day is school day!! Their win was well-deserved.

I guessed Elton too ,with key words like "sacrifice" and "crocodile rock" excellent clues @Penny_Forthem He seems like a pretty sociable chap to me.

I wish you a pleasant Monday.

I can't cope with loud music/ noise in general, but I'm getting more sensitive to it. I often wear earplugs now. I have some quite good ones that were orriginally for when travelling especially by plane. I can still hear conversation (and the music or whatever) but it takes the edge off the loud noise.
Quite good at the Allotment this morning, the bright sun made up for the windchill.

I have picked a load more apples, given a lot away, made sausages in cider with apples and there's still plenty on the tree. These are the Katy eaters. Hub has made Katy cider, too.
After a virus 40 years ago, I am deaf in my left ear, but have good hearing in my right.
Clear sky - going to be frosty tonight.

Elton didn't even occur to me! :noidea:

It's been quite cold today, sunny though. We haven't done gardening, although we had meant to.

We went to the SM then had a cider in a pub then went to Bressingham GC to buy a few more decorations for the tree. I think we have enough now. It will be our first C tree in Norfolk as we are usually in France.

I've just watched the last episode of Celebrity Traitors, found it gripping all the way through. I wonder if the non-celebrity Traitors are as good.

                Afternoon all.

First frost of the autumn last night, but a beautiful sunny day to follow. I got a lot of leaf clearing done; the back lawn still needs a cut, but the leaves were so thick on it that you couldn't see the grass! The washing smells lovely after a day outside.

We grew "Katy" apples in our garden in Northumberland, and they are indeed lovely, @Penny_Forthem . Unfortunately the local wasp population loved them too! It's too wet for Katy here, but our ancient gnarly eating apple tree, probably a Cox, had a good crop this year. The birds are still enjoying the windfalls.

I also hate loud music and loud noise generally. I can't see the point of having loud music at a social event - it just makes conversation impossible. My idea of bliss is to sit under a tree, as far from traffic (and people, on the whole!) as possible, preferably near to running water, listening to all the sounds of nature...

@Liriodendron Cedric uses the lawn mower on a highish cut to mow up the leaves on the lawn then he empties them into big bags to rot down for compost. 3 birds with 1 stone!

Quite a lot of the people at the party live in London as my friend's OH was a barrister in London. Maybe they like noise! I'm a country girl.

Was there a DJ @Busy-Lizzie ? They, like many live musicians of the popular variety are often deaf from having music on too loud so it gets played louder and louder as their years and ears go by. I particularly dislike it when the bass is so loud it makes my breast bone vibrate. Can't think or speak so have to leave. @Allotment Boy I bought earplugs some years ago to take a 12 year old Possum and 2 friends to see Avril Lavigne in Brussels and it was still too noisy for me and that was 18 years ago.

It's been a dry, sunny day here and the sky is clear so tonight will be cold going down to 2C feeling like 0C in the northerly wind. Very pleased with yesterday's decision to bring in the strelitzia and sent other pots to the polytunnel for the winter.

All day patch club today and I've been teaching the maple leaf block to 3 beginners and 3 others. I primed them all with explicit info on the correct quality of fabric, the correct needle and the ability to sew straight. One, who's been sewing for years but never done patchwork managed to buy upholstery fabric. She has a big, heavy embroidery machine at home but brought a simple, light one today. It broke down after 6" of sewing so I leant her mine. Another brought a brand new machine she'd nevertaken out of its box and didn't know how to thread.

However, after a shaky start they all got on well and grasped the essentials for cutting, sewing, trimming and squaring the blocks. They've got 3 weeks to finish all 16 blocks before I show them how to combine and edge them. The next 2 Mondays are for Xmas projects.

We do leaves with the mowers too @Busy-Lizzie and find that being chopped up in the mower means they compost more easily than if left whole in leaf bins or piles. Decades since I've been to Bressingham.

Happy quizzing @Ladybird4. Have a warm and cosy evening everyone whether out to play or hibernating.

Hello there all. Just a quick visit before quizzing. VM engineer arrived and, joy of joys, I could actually understand him - well apart from all the higher techie stuff. Apparently I was not the only person affected over the weekend as one of his mates from around the corner experienced the same problems. It was blamed on Storm Claudia - good get out thinks I. Anyway, he was great and checked everything over including walking up the Lane to the junction box. I now only have to wait for the other VM engineer expected Wednesday morning to re-position my router from upstairs to downstairs. That will make life so much easier. Uh oh. I have just had a text from United Utilities to say they are investigating a problem in my area. I may not have any water or low pressure! I'll just go check. Well it seems to be fine but I've filled the kettle just in case. What more could possible go wrong? I wonder if that is down to Claudia?
Your Cousin H will feel dreadful if unable to attend the funeral @Penny_Forthem but the weather can play a major influence in people being able to get out and about. Staying safe is the important thing.

3C, we are hibernating! Early to bed, and watched an oldish Mission Impossible film. Not sure if we had seen it before or not! Still struggled to work out what the blazes was going on. However it was sufficiently entertaining. Glad we got out for our walk this morning while it was sunny.
I agree that overloud music is a real turnoff. The last Christmas evening event that we attended, all the guests ended up chatting in the hall as the DJ in the main room had driven everyone out with his music. I’m also sure that most DJs and sound engineers have made themselves deaf over the years. Certainly every musical production on cruise ships I’ve been on, has been so painfully loud that we have had to leave within minutes.

Hello there everyone. Well what can I say about the quiz last night except we were beaten. Actually that is an understatement - we were thrashed 75-30. It turns out that this 'new' team to the leagues is an amalgamation of members from two teams that were in the first division. (I'm using that as our excuse anyway!) I still enjoyed the evening but not so much the new 'lift'. He had no idea how to use his sat nav or adjust the volume so we got a little lost both going and returning to the new venue. I was also a little uneasy on the return jouney as he had been drinking beers throughout the quiz. Gosh will you listen to me, I am a moaning minnie this morning. Sorry all, I'll shut up now.
Its a wet cold morning and today I have only one thing to do and that is to clear a pathway through my living room and hallway so that the young men coming to take my large fish tank away at 17:00 won't collide with anything.
Meant to say that I received a text from United Utilities whilst out to say they had sorted the water issue and everything would be back to normal, allowing for, possibly, a little discoloration in the tap water and fine bubbles. Phew!
