There must be a house plant section. I can't find it so here's my question:

I foolishly bought a load of house plants assuming that at least 50% would die.
They didn't and I feel like the cat lady
Anyway... there's one plant I've tried everywhere, plenty of water, little water - that kind of thing.
If it's a diva, it's going outside on the pavement to be someone else's problem
Does it need something basic or a new owner,
    Here it is:

Thanks @Tidemark . I didn't even know what it was. Off to read your post carefully.
    Edit
Looks like it had too much light. I can do less light. I have plenty of it. Young healthy shoots on plants seem to indicate a minor adjustment. It's producing shoots so maybe it can stay.

It looks to me like you may have several young plants in one pot. They often do that to give a better display but they may be crowded in the pot which may be why the leaf tips are browning. Turn it out and have a look at the roots. If the pot is jam packed you could put it in a bigger sized pot or carefully tease the individual plants apart and pot them up separately or in twos or threes.

If you go to the Forums page (Click 'Go to Forums') and then scroll down, you will see a section called 'Other Plants'
House plants can be included there

Looks like a Kentia palm @BB3 , they are lovely and elegant plants :)

My approach to slow growing houseplants is to do nothing. Offer a fair sized pot, fairly good location, fair amount of water and then do nothing for the next year or two. Plants get used to the environment and either die, do nothing, or grow well into beautiful, mature plants.

Constant change in conditions will just stress the slow movers of this life.

One thing to avoid is a location close to a radiator. The warm, dry air will dry the tips of the leaves which is not dangerous but not very aesthetic either.

If you happen to have a cool but draught free entrance hall with large windows, flagstone floors, panelled walls, a sweeping staircase, potraits of ancestors and a hostile cat, put your palm in there. It should thrive and live happily for generations to come. :old:

@Selleri I have several such places if you scale it down to EoT 1930s , reasonably presentable paintings if you don't look to close.. The staircase does a sharp turn to the right near the top. Cat died of old age about 5 years ago, fake tudorbethan panels
            Will that do?

Hmm. Not so sure about these newbuilds, but if the area is reasonably cool (both temperature and styling- wise) , your Kentia should do just fine.

You don't have a butler by any chance? :heehee:

I have a kentia and its one of my favourite, its about 1.5m tall now. It likes good sun and moisture. Cats like eating it also

This is my Kentia Palm below. They are generally quite slow growing, even with lots of light. Mine is positioned at a north facing window so is even slower growing than usual. I take this as a plus because in the wild they'll grow as big as an house!!

I know people who put theres outside from May to September and they really benefit from this, though they need to be acclimatised to full bright sun.

I water mine when the top couple of inches of soil feel dry and feed it once a month from around May to October. I wipe the leaves once in a while with a damp cloth and that's it.

Although it is at the side of a radiator that doesn't matter because that radiator is never on. If it was the leaf tips would probably go brown.

Mine tends to push out three new fronds per year. This year's are already mature and fully open. Next year's three are already slowly pushing up from the bottom.

We've got one too and it's a whopper. It stands in a dark corner in the living room. I do spray it occasionally and wipe its leaves, but don't water it much. I think they are shade tolerant. It's due for a leaf to be removed as it hangs over the TV. It's in quite a small pot.

It's a fine plant but it seems to be awful particular.
That being said, I remember when we were getting carpets laid, I bunged a sickly orchid ( not keen on them) on top of a wardrobe and forgot about it. When I eventually remembered it, it was perfectly healthy and in full bloom.
