Very wet on the ground here this morning after rain last night but so far no frost and oh so cold. Seems north Yorkshire is in for some snowy weather today. I have fallen behind with my crafting so must make a real push to crack on with it as the Christmas Fair looms ever closer.

Yay, I have just heard on TV that Line of Duty is coming back. They are starting filming in Belfast next year. Its about time we had something decent to watch on TV - I am sick of repeats of repeats.

Looks like cousin H can make it to the funeral; see you on the other side.

Rain earlier this morning but dry and sunny spells now so gardeining after lunch.

I hope the funeral goes as well as, or better than, expected and that you get to see other cousins @Penny_Forthem.

OH and I caught up with Line of Duty very late and watched the last 2 series. Found it all a bit of a damp squib, especially at the end, so probably won't bother. However, you're right that there's not a lot on and too many repeats.

            Hello all.

It's cold today, rained earlier, now there is a glimpse of sun.

The builders are banging away again next door. There is another pile of what could be an ex wall in the garden. They are nice and friendly though.

Cedric is taking me out to lunch soon, to a local pub. We haven't been there for 2 or 3 years though we used to go there as the food is good, pub grub well cooked.

Second VM engineer been, done the job and gone. I have been doing a lot of crafting waiting for him to arrive and now can relax a little. Sorry that your cousin won't be able to make the funeral @Penny_Forthem and I do hope all went well today. The sky here is very blue and there is sunshine but it is bitterly cold out.
p.s. @lizzie27 is absolutely correct, I mis-read your post @Penny_Forthem and I am glad your cousin H was going to be able to make it to the funeral. Apologies and well spotted @lizzie27.

Afternoon folks, I think @Penny_Forthem said her cousin was able to get to the funeral or have I got that wrong? Hope it goes well anyway and there's not too much standing about in the cold.

Bitterly cold and very blustery here but with sunshine so I got my longer padded coat out for our usual walk and haven't ventured out again. I hate gardening when it's windy.

Hope you enjoy your lunch out @Busy-Lizzie. I bought some sausages last week on a whim so may have sausage and mash for dinner tonight - real comfort food in cold weather.

Our weather forecaster is on the blink we think, keeps wanting new batteries so may have a look to see what a new one would cost.

How many chickens are you thinking of getting @Obelix-Vendée?

                Stay warm everybody.

Windy here too @lizzie27 but I've been stuck indoors since lunch trying to get thru to the bank in Olonne because, when we changed treasurer, they manage to block my card as well as the old treasurer's. Doh!

I've booked 5 chooks. We don't need that many or all the eggs but have the space to give them a bit of life. They arrive in a state of baldness, weakness and understandable fear and bewilderment. We've had 2 batches so far and it takes them a few days to come out from under the bench where we have the nesting boxes and venture outside into their pen. Their feathers and physical strength take a few weeks and they become more confident. The speckled brown hens are much more sociable than the white leghorns and learn very quickly that we're a source of food and treats. Even the white ones came running when they heard us opening the gate to the veg plot and the remaining white one is convinced I only go in the polytunnel these days to give her sunflower seeds and sweetcorn.

Friday will be total hen shed spring clean and preparing their food and water with vitamins and minerals ready for their new free range life, grubbing in the soil. Must remind OH to put nets back round our veggie beds.

We had wet snow first thing for just over an hour. All gone again now but bitter cold. Should have gone to Capel for a volunteer session but I'm not that keen. We went to Brent Cross, mainly food shop and lunch out, but I also bought some Chinos in M&S, this is the first time I've paid full price in years but TK Maxx didn't have anything suitable last time I looked.

Well, I'm glad that's over. Big turnout. The church was beautifully decorated and, with the sun falling through the stained glass, the flowers of dark rust, orange and red positively glowed.
H and I returned to her car and right in front of us was a little robin in the hedge. We both cried.
The wake was torture for me. H found people she was at school with, so I was on my own, though I was sitting with them. One man had the loudest voice and kept interrupting everyone, shouting above the din. She had wanted to leave early, but it was 3.45 by the time we left. I had 2 paracetamol and a snooze when I got in.

Started cloudy this morning, but the sun came out late morning. Down to the seaside for coffee and pastries, and a walk on the seafront. I managed to grab a 2026 diary in one of the shops, and as it was so cheap, decided to pay in cash. My change included a new £5 note with King Charles III on it! For a moment, I thought I’d been given a counterfeit note, but on examining it, realised what it was. The girl behind the counter, and the customer behind me, were all very excited! I think the girl was planning to go through the till to see if there were any others! I must go through my purse, and check the last withdrawal I made. I didn’t even realise they were in circulation.
Bitterly cold out, despite the sun, but we wrapped up well and enjoyed the sea views in the sunshine. Spent the afternoon catching up on paperwork. Very boring but necessary.
Hope the funeral was ok, @Penny_Forthem.
Well done on your hen adoption, @Obelix-Vendee, so good to hear of them having a happy life.

We've been thinking of you today @Penny_Forthem. I'm glad for you that the funeral is over and you are home safely. You must be feeling completely drained.

Kind of you @Obelix-Vendée to home the rescue chickens. It must be satisfying to see them starting to enjoy life and grow feathers.

Good evening all. I am sure that you will have many memories of your loved one that can been shared over and over again @Penny_Forthem. It is funny how you had a bird encounter that will always now be associated with your cousin. When my Dad passed away, as we drove away from the crem. a whie dove sat on the road in front of our car and slowly took off as we approached. We always said it was Dad.
@Obelix-Vendée I bet your one remaining chook will be most intrigued with the arrival of new friends. It is a lovely thing that you do to re-home rescue chooks and give them a happy time.
