If you believe your potted plants will be at risk over the winter, first wrap in fleece and then cover that with bubblewrap to protect against wet weather.
Only you can make the decision as to whether it is necessary or not.

Thats reassuring . I have the blue berry and apple tree over the past few weeks though the apple tree is still in the same pot.

One of my pots is slate. Am i right in thinking that this is more likely to get to a lower temperature than the wooden and terracotta pots ? I dont think i will be bubble wrapping anything though

I did try fleece a few years ago but that just ended up with an awful lot of insects and bugs somehow getting inside the fleece and living there

Just dont do it, I've never wrapped pots of hardy plants, just look at nurseries and garden centres they dont do it.
If its a tender plant or borderline hardy its worth it but I get the feeling you dont have anything in that category.

Must have misunderstood as I thought it was tender stuff in pots that was the issue. Some pots are not "frost resistant" and can gradually become damaged over time if subjected to wet and then freeze.

You are too right! We up in the frozen north have to take extra precautions when being stupid enough as I am to attempt to grow plants H4 and below. That said it is more often than not winter wet which is the issue rather than just cold.
I can grow the likes of Nerine Bowdenii in big tubs with good drainage, likewise Oriental and Asiactic Lilies but they would be likely to leg up if I just grew them in the ground where they would likely rot off over winter.

Wood probably won't be affected, terracotta depends on whether frost resistant or not, higher quality pots are likely to survive better.
