    IMG_0345.jpeg Good evening everyone,

I’d like to improve the back of my house and plant a couple of climbers. See the photo I’ve attached of the area. I was thinking about a Climbing rose and Clematis but open to other suggestions. I quite like the idea of having an evergreen clematis/climber which will also provide some wall cover during winter.

It’s a south facing wall and I will have to grow the plants in pots as it’s a covered patio.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Many thanks,

    Ed

Trachelospermum jasminoides. Mine's got variegated red leaves and they turn dark red in the winter. It thrives on a south facing wall.

Love Jasmine however I have one of those on the opposite fence and another one on another fence so I was looking for something different.

Just saying ... Trachelospermum jasminoides is a different plant to Jasmine officinale. It's English name is Star Jasmine, but it's a totally different plant.
I don't know which one of those you've got but I thought I'd mention it

Careful with climbers near drainpipes as if left on its own it can rip the whole thing off

also consider a grape, they do really well in a south position in the uk now and one plant can be trained to whatever size you want eventually. so many varieties to choose. they arent evergreen though

I have the Star Jasmine which seems to be growing nicely. I bought them quite small but they are definitely growing.

Ahh yes, I see how that could happen. I will run some sturdy wire trellis over the wall and tie the plants into that to hopefully avoid the pipe tumbling down. ‍♂️

Clematis Armandii is a bit of a thug, so I wouldn't recommend for that situation. However I have one (cheap from Morrisons!) called clematis x triternata rubromarginata. It's delicate and cute. Not supposed to be evergreen, but it's holding on well.
The sites say it's vigorous, but I haven't found it to be
