Is it worth or even beneficial to tidy up the garden?

Generally I tidy up anything that's gone black and mushy, but leave those things holding their shape.
Might be a change this year, being so mild, and I'll take down the Acanthus senni, Dahlia imperialis and the Impatiens tinctoria after Christmas to give some of the spring growers a chance.

I'm also a semi-clearer upper. I leave wild areas until late winter but I've already tidied areas we can see from the house as it allows the hellebores and cyclamen and dogwood to show themselves off nicely between now and the Spring.

I think there might be some buried helebores out the front. I'll give the fallen leaves a jiggle to check.

I have a smallish town garden, it wouldn't take much to get it looking tidy. But I'm trying to teach myself not to faff so much and leave things alone.
