I put a VERY slight fall on my GH base because I was concerned about water pooling inside. I've had to put up with a "sticky" door ever since. Never again if I ever had to do it again, completely level would be the way.

      Update:-
I finally got the quotes which ranged from very high to horrendous :yikes:. With both of them they said the brick option would be more expensive. The cheapest quote, which I have accepted is £2,400 :cry3:. The most expensive was almost double that!

Having spoken to some builders I know (now retired) they thought that sounded quite reasonable.

They are coming on Friday to make the base and said it should be left for a week before installation. When I knew that I then phoned the recommended installers to tell them that it will be ready from the 26th. They came back to me with a phone call saying they can install it in July!!!!!!! I politely expressed my shock  and said I shall get back to them.

I then phoned the greenhouse company that had recommended them as their top installer in our area and the manager told me to leave it to him. Shortly afterwards I got another call from the installers say that either I misheard or they misspoke but they can do it in January and not July. So they shall install it on the week of January the 19th. I think the sales manager told them that he can't recommend them in future if that is the timescale.

I'll have a chat to the sales manager tomorrow. Since we bought the greenhouse we've been chatting to him about his garden and giving him advice as he obviously knows very little about gardening. We have also given him one of our special Shiney Hybrid chilli plants.

These delays must be very frustrating let alone the added expense of the base! This reminds me of that funny but frightening book, "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse". I sure hope nothing else costly or astonishing throws another bump in the road. :fingers crossed:

Any mention of Blandings reminds me of P G Wodehouse, Jeeves, Wooster, Aunt Agatha and The Empress.

Not sure what you have been quoted on, other than a concrete slab, but if it was for a 100mm concrete base we would ideally like a rebar mesh to reinforce it long term.
Its said A142 Mesh is suitable and should not add more than £100 to the materials cost.

Assume you or the contractors will be laying in some conduits /pipes for the water and electrics before the base is poured, nothing worse than trying to do it afterwards.

No, not possible. We don't want to be lifting the patio to take anything across to the greenhouse and no way to get either out of the house without taking them through the wall.

Water isn't needed as we do the watering by hose and the power is run on a catenary cable from the loft to a pole on the greenhouse. That has worked fine for the last 50 years :blue thumb:

Goodness, @shiney, that's a big extra expense :hate-shocked: ... especially unwelcome at this time of yr. Still ... should all be ready for you in time for the spring rush. :blue thumb:
