I cheated to make things easy. I cooked what I could in disposable foil trays and didn't decant to serving dishes.
Very little washing up!
Round 2 tomorrow when family are here, but they are good at clearing and washing.

A very good morning one and all and Happy Boxing Day. Are any of you thinking about going out to face the sales? I most certainly won't be but I know that some like the hustle and bustle and the chance to pick up a bargain. I still have gifts to open so my day will be quiet. I hope that you all have happy days, that people who are a little below par healthwise are recovering and that you are now looking forward to a new year and a new growing season.

Nice to see you @Ante1 I imagine it would have been a white Christmas for you.

The rain let up yesterday but it started again during the evening and is due to continue all day. People are still screeding water out of their homes and it is also bitterly cold. Many are being rehoused in sports centres. How horrible.

We had a nice meal with roasties. We didn't overdo it as I don't like that bloated feeling. My friend likes the Christmas Pudding and it really does fill you up, so just a salad last night. Leftovers today with a salad. Physio late morning. She is doing a short day today and then back to it on Monday.

Family coming for lunch and had requested curry today, but I've run out of the energy to make it, so it'll be a sausage plait with salad and a vegetarian dish for DiL.
Son is doing his usual race around Chester walls this morning, so no doubt will be ravenous!
Has anyone seen @obelisk Vendee around? I can't find her.

 

Good morning all.

I hope everyone had a good day yesterday. We did. We had Cedric's Gravlax around midday with Champagne, then a huge roast turkey dinner with lots of veg and Yorkshire puddings mid afternoon. The children opened some presents in the morning then we opened all the rest after lunch. We played poker in the evening but with plastic money.

DIL had invited an elderly lady and her Border Collie dog from down the road. They would have been on their own. She has children in Eastbourne but they hadn't invited her, DIL didn't know why. The lady was nice and her dog was great friends with the spaniel, Jarvis, in this family.

Today DIL and the children are going to do the Boxing Day sea swim. It's freezing, they must be mad. They've done it before. We'll go and watch. They serve mulled wine on the beach.

 

So sad about those flooded people @Tui34. I hope you are warm and dry.

I expect Obelix-Vendée is taking time off for Christmas @Penny_Forthem, but she last posted on the 18th. I hope she hasn't left and I hope she isn't ill.

I hope everyone is doing ok and enjoying the festive break/family time/quiet time. I stayed in my ‘Sloth-mas’ pyjamas all day yesterday. I did put some mascara on so I didn’t look like a complete sloth though!

The intravenous antibiotics seem to have cleared up my Mother's infection, and so the "Hospital At Home" team have discharged her from their care. So that is great news.

The last time we had any rain was the 23rd and there is no rain in the forecast until at least the 31st. Surprising to get this long a dry spell at this time of year.

I leave you with this thought - there are only 364 more shopping days to go until Christmas!

 

This family are bonkers! They've been for the Boxing Day swim. The air temperature was 4°.

 

Good afternoon all. Yikes but your family are brave - especially after the report of the two men missing after going swiming off a beach in Devon and the search for them has been abandoned. Even more sad news, the young man I mentioned a few days back has been found dead but the police have said that there are no suspicious circumstances. Apparently he was heading for the place where we quizzers had our last 'First Friday' lunch. I feel so sad for his family and friends.
I did mention missing seeing @Obelix-Vendée around last Tuesday and I am hoping that she is just having time out. I think she was going to Nantes to some big Christmas Market the last time I remember her posting. I've had a nice day so far, opening the last of my prezzies and replying to various friends and family members. Its a really nice day today with blue skies and sun but the frost that was around this morning still hasn't disappeared and is due again tonight.

 

I was pleased to read that the antibiotics have worked their magic for your Mum @Badly_Maintained. For the first time in several weeks I have not had a coughing bout so this is good news for me as last night I had a really decent sleep after the nightmare that was the previous one. Bit of a rude awakening as Cricket launched himself at my head but it was actually time to get up and feed him.

 

I have just had some really nice news. The second of my two great nieces - who was due on January 1st - decided that today would be a good day to arrive. Mum and baby doing well and baby will be know as Margo. That really did make me think about 'The Good Life' programme on TV.

 

Family just gone, so feet up time.
We have enough leftovers to feed ourselves for days (and they took things home with them too).
I would like to see the Great Escaper tonight with Michael Caine, but fear I'll be asleep early tonight.
