I read @Ladybird's comments to mean that the first of her family to see the new year, will be her new niece, Eleanor.
Been to Aldi and got everything I wanted (not a lot!) bar walnuts for my Muhammara dip to take for the buffet lunch tomorrow, so I'll make red pepper hummus instead. Also taking home made sausage rolls.
New Year, new thread tomorrow. I shall be glad to get back to a bit of normality!

      Good afternoon,
Just popped by to wish everyone a very happy New Year’s Eve and hope you all have a good evening whatever your plans. We have been invited round to our neighbours house to see the New Year in with some of our other neighbours, so will pop round there later.

We have no particular plans for tomorrow but I’ll cook a nice meal for dinner. I’m thinking of doing fish for a change from all the meat we’ve eaten. If it’s a nice day, we might go for a walk somewhere to blow the cobwebs away.

Afternoon all. Haha @Tui34 I wasn't saying that Australia saw the new year first only that my little Australian great niece would see it first compared to England born great niece. You were bob on @Penny_Forthem, OOH yum, raclette @Tui34! You have made my mouth water. Loving the sound of that train journey too. I remember when we went skiing in Austria that the journeys did have that bright, white beauty and the traffic noises were all muffled by it.

Afternoon all, (just about!) we're watching a rather nice pink sunset so hope tomorrow will be sunny. Woke up late to find a very hard frost, temps of -5 -6 and a very thick fog. So very glad we don't have to go to work these days.

Had a quiet day, too cold for any gardening so did more washing and ironing. I will probably take down all the decorations and tree tomorrow depending on how I feel - I like to start the New Year with a clean slate. Thinking of which, I can now order more of the very nice slate plant labels I bought just before Christmas - lots more bulbs coming up.

Have a good evening everybody - Happy New Year's Eve.

I had a most marvellous surprise visitor today. It was a fox who had come to drink from my pond. At first I thought it was a ginger cat but then it lifted its head and turned round so I could see it in all its glory through my kitchen window. Cricket was inside thank goodness as I am not sure how the visitor would have gone down with him. I was too slow to get a picture.

I've had quite a busy day, got fed up with doing nothing much. I've deep cleaned the sitting room, moved the furniture and vacuumed under it and everywhere that was fiddly with the Hoover attachments. I can say Hoover as it is one. I took the sofa covers off and washed them. The bits that weren't cleaned were the bits that had Christmas cards on them. I'll do that when I take down the decorations. After that I changed the bedding. I won't wash it yet as the sofa covers are on the drying rack.

I've made lemon posset for this evening, Cedric loves it. I rarely make it because of all the cream and sugar. Chicken Tandoori is marinating. Cedric likes that too.

I hope you enjoy your evening @Blue arbour. I think we will probably be asleep at midnight!

I am signing out for today (and for this year) and I would just like to say a big thank you to all of you who have proved to be informative, helpful, interesting and funny. It has been a delight reading all of your posts. I will see you in the morning (next year even) so if you are staying awake don't forget the first footing - who these days has a lump of coal to take with them?

Thank you @Ladybird for hosting this thread and keeping us all amused with Cricket's little foibles and various quiz goings on! Happy New Year

We're sitting on the sofa after dinner, stuffed with crispy duck pancakes with a hoisin sauce and spring onions. A rather messy meal but enjoyable.

Fireworks are going off all around the house, hope it quietens down later.
