That sounds truly alarming, @AuntyRach! If you happen to see something similar on a website (Argos?) point me in that direction!

      Hello all.

No snow here, just frost and cold.

I did a towel wash too this morning.

We've been to 2 GCs this morning to look for green rubbery gardening shoes for me. Mine have split after 10 years of wear. Couldn't find any of the right sort with proper heels. They only had very lightweight ones without heels at the back. They let the dew in and they fall off. I'll have to contact the big river company though I prefer to try them on.

Going for a cup of tea with friends soon.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for anyone who may not have good balance etc as have to be able to stand up on the pedals. I don’t think Argos do one. They do a stepper with a tall handle bar which looks a bit safer but you save your money and just step up and down on the stair step you have?

I did more washing this morning as well - what exciting lives we lead! We had sunshine so I assumed our solar panels were generating power - every little bit helps. I can't actually check as the smart meter is not so smart as the electric stats aren't showing for the last week or so although the gas is. Will have to chase our leccy supplier again.

According to my phone I'm doing about 5000 - 6000 steps a day which I reckon is enough to keep me fit. Still having problems with my breathing but have appointments at the Respiratory Clinic in a few weeks time. My new GP has also picked up from the CT scan that I may have a possible thyroid problem as well so have been referred for an ultrasound.

I prefer those backless garden clogs @Busy-Lizzie as they are easy to kick off when coming back indoors in a hurry. I never get up early enough to go traipsing around in the dew!

My OH is giving in @Ergates and is thinking of getting a smart phone at last - much research is being done. I've advised him to get a Samsung one like mine so at least I can talk him through things.

Phew @Ergates, I feel so much better now! I decided to get my brother's card in the post while it was still light outside. The post box is only about half a mile away so I enjoyed the little walk. I was so glad I had put my new bob hat on because it is colder than my fridge out there and I spotted a council gritter already starting on the roads. It was so nice to get back indoors again - cosy and warm once more. My next project wool has arrived, claret and blue Aran to knit a scarf for Margot's Dad. He doesn't know I am knitting this for him as he had just made a 'throw away' comment to 'L' Grandma, my younger sis, about wondering if I might consider knitting him one. I will enjoy the plain knitting required and can do it in front of the TV.

Our posts crossed there @lizzie27 but I agree with you about the backless garden clogs - easy on, easy off and I have a pair at the back door and a pair at the front door. Sorry you are still having respiratory trouble so I hope they can get to the bottom of it when you have your appointments.

Belated happy new Year to you all.
We survived the new year party, but it was a very late one. I've not been on the site much as it's on a go slow, takes forever to load and bring up threads. A sprinkle of snow overnight as forecast, it hasn't cleared from any shady areas at all.
Still no word from @Obelix-Vendée I note.

Actually had a shower of hailstones earlier. Didn’t last long.
I got a Samsung A26, @lizzie27. OH has had a Samsung for a couple of years, it was more expensive than mine when he bought it. He hasn’t really got the hang of it, doesn’t use it much, and Im the only person that rings him, so he will be of limited help!
I seem to have a lot of booze left in the cupboard. SIL can usually be relied on to mix a few cocktails while he is here, but everyone stuck to the wine this time. I shall banish the bottles down to the utility room where there will be less temptation for me.
I think I’ll do as you suggest, @AuntyRach, sounds less dangerous!

Just reading "balance" and thought it might help:
Unless you have a medical condition, balance can be easily trained.
While standing with your feet, fix your eye to a point on the ground or something in the room.
                      Then raise slightly a leg.
Just look at the fixated point, don't look around. This is the crucial difference.
Repeat the same with the other foot.

You will soon find out that you are able to stand longer on one foot than thought. After a few days doing this daily for some seconds, you will soon find out that your balance improves and that you can stand on one foot longer and longer and eventually even raise the second leg without falling over.
Please do this exercise next to a chair or something you can hold on in case you lose the balance.
