Hello there everyone. What a horrible day its been here - sounds like yours @lizzie27 - minus the fog! It has rained all day so guess what? Got it in one! My garden tidy plans have rotated to the back burner once more. @Penny_Forthem I love my Aldi in the village as it always has nice, interesting things to look at/buy and try. Its also the most convenient place to get rid of my spent batteries. They always have the most tempting plants too that I just have to 'save'. Sorry to hear about your glasses. Are they absolutely beyond repair or could your Optician straighten them up for you? I, too, am hoping to see @Obelix-Vendée back soon. Missing all the stories about the crafting and not forgetting the chooks. I agree @Tui34 about smelly and wet dogs. One of our dogs - years back - took great delight in rolling in cow pats and coming home covered in the stuff. Dad used to have to hose him down in the back yard before Mum would let him enter the kitchen.

Time for me to sign out now. I do hope everyone is warm and cosy. @Busy-Lizzie should be home now with those log burners working overtime - I recall her telling us about stacking all those up. See you all tomorrow you lovely lot.

Hello there everyone. Hope you all slept well. My night wasn't too bad. We have a bye tonight in the quiz league so we are all going out for a curry. Note to self: 'Do not pig out today - save yourself for tonight.' I am thinking something Goan with seafood. Cricket fed, cereal and tea organised and now to see if there is anything cheery on the news. I am not holding my breath. ;)

I hope you skipped reading the news this morning, @Ladybird4.
Much debate here as to whether to go out for breakfast or lunch, as we woke to fog. It did clear, and the sun peeped out, but the fog has come back! No decision yet!

Morning - I am enjoying a leisurely one, for a change. The sun is shining!
Family not coming tonight as kayak training resumes. I presume it's floodlight! (pun intended!)
I had a very vivid dream about meeting Portuguese people in national costume (though I have no idea what that was) and they made me a 'Portuguese savoury dessert', which was covered in lettuce and cabbage. No I hadn't eaten cheese last night!
I've just googled their national costume and I was right about the red!
We started watching Seven dials last night (Netflix). OH said he didn't fancy it, but was hooked within the first few minutes, as was I.
My mouth is watering at the thought of your seafood curry @Ladybird4

              Good morning all.

We arrived back home last night just before dark, around 5.40 pm. We had a lovely weekend. The 3 ill granddaughters weren't very ill and tried to keep away from us. Would have been nice to cuddle them though. Rose has always been very affectionate and cuddly.

Everyone seemed happy with their presents. Gaby cooked some delicious meals. When I praised her for her roast stuffed fillet of pork she told me I taught her when she was a teenager!

There was hardly any traffic on the way home. French roads in January are a delight to drive on.

I will be collecting my new roses this week from my friend. The new bed isn't ready yet. I will dig a load of compost into the clay, so long as it isn't raining.

                Good morning ladies & gentlemen,

The situation with my neighbour and her Grandson seems to be working OK @Penny_Forthem . Thank-you for asking. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed it continues in this vein.)

Another neighbour passed away after a long illness last week. She was a relatively young woman and leaves behind a Husband and two young adult Daughters. It is a heartbreaking situation.

I had a well-entrenched migraine for most of last week and didn't want to post some mad rant here, so I stayed away.

Congratulations to you Niece on getting admitted to Oxford @Tui34 . Hope you are in much less pain now (and ideally no pain at all!).

I hope Cricket's paw is now fully recovered @Ladybird4 . Thank-you for sharing your beautiful witch-hazel photos.

Hope you are feeling much better now @Allotment Boy .

Glad you had a wonderful weekend @Busy-Lizzie .

With regard to those of you good people who are on statins - I know a man who halved his cholesterol level without any medications. He simply had a big bowl of porridge oats for breakfast and lunch every day for a couple of years. His Doctors were amazed. Of course you would have to be rather fond of porridge...

Last week someone somewhere pressed a big button which was labelled "Increase birdsong from now on".

I'm off to take my Mother for an out-patient appointment at the hospital to see if a thing on her face is cancerous.

Best wishes to all, as always.
