Afternoon all, woke at 6.30 ish this morning for a loo trip, went back to bed and overslept till 9 am! Oops, I was very foggy minded and found it difficult to get my brain and limbs in order so OH got the breakfast - probably out of fear I'd drop the teacups. Anyway eventually got washed and dressed and downed a coffee after which I felt much more awake.

Much to our surprise after a wet and windy wild night, we awoke to sunshine and a bit of blue sky, although OH said it was very chilly outside and he got caught in a brief hailstorm whilst fetching the paper. I'd opted to stay at home and start the housework and managed to clean right through, with OH doing the vacuuming when he got back. His friend is staying the night Thursday on his way down from Essex to Cornwall for a funeral and will come back again to stay overnight on Friday

I've spent another hour or so trying to mend my sister's antique and very fragile white tablecloth which is huge. I've had to cut bits of the hem to use as patches and get my smallest, finest needle out to sew them on. I can only do a bit at a time as it my eyesight isn't good enough, even with my new glasses on. Tomorrow I'll try to use 'iron on' Vilene behind the patches to strengthen the repairs but I really don't think the tablecloth will last much longer. - it's probably over 100 years old. I've also got to wash a red wine stain out somehow.

Good evening all. I had a most amazing snow blizzard today at 12:30 - I confess to getting a little excited - as I always seem to do when I spot snow. I reckon I had all the seasons in one hour! I did go down to check on the GH and the bottom half of the garden was virtually underwater. At one stage I went out to put some rubbish in the bin and the wind had blown its lid open. I do not know how long it will have been like that but am hoping there is not too much water in it. I didn't get much done outside but did manage to get some HW done - which required my lying down in a darkened room with a wet cloth on my head to recover.
Hope you are happy with your hair cut @Busy-Lizzie and that you had a safe and uneventful journey to Brighton/Eastbourne. @lizzie27 that tablecloth sounds like a real treasure so I do hope that the vilene works and that you can get rid of the wine stain. @Ergates, I have been giving some thoughts into getting an air fryer. My Bestie thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread but I would like one I can bake my cakes in and I would need/welcome any advice that air fryer owners on here may have (please).

I was amused by your predictive text coming up with 'woodlice' as a possible alernative to 'well'. Roget will be spinning in his grave! I remember once sending a text message to a friend where I wanted to use the word 'excellent' to describe a cake that she had baked. Unfortunately it went as 'excrement'! My friend thought I was being posh polite. She did see the funny side of it though. I was mortified!

I too woke up at 6am @lizzie27 and then slept thru till after 9am. Had to get my own coffee! OH was up and busy collecting my drill and some screws to fix planks along the edge of the dahlia border in the veg plot. He'd clever dumped loads of chipped wood on the bed before securing the edge and the lovely chooks had a ball tossing it all over the place.

All contained now and I have potted up a couple od dahlia roots he disturbed. Np ide waht they are as the labels have long since been "chooked". Surprise in store. I've watered all my pots in the polytunnel, nirsery and along the front of the house but it was far too cold and windy to do anything else so seed sowing has to wait a day or two.

The air fryer experiment had mixed results @Ergates - the lamb was lovely but the veggies a bit kizzened and there was no sauce. However it was a US recipe and didn't include red wine so i know how to improve it.

Today is the feast of the annunciation - not that we believe in that - and also International Day of the Waffle which is very important in Scandinavia. Possum is christening a waffle maker I bought in the January sales. I'll report later.

            Have a good night everyone.

Evening all! I'm having fun with my granddaughters, who are now old enough to help in the kitchen, and both have a lovely sense of humour. They'll soon be old enough to look after themselves when their parents are occupied, which will be a pity, in a way...

The weather has been practising for April, with wind, sun and heavy showers. The spring bulbs are getting a bit of a battering.

I'd be interested in views on air fryers too, @Ladybird4 . I've been toying with the idea of getting one for a while, but OH thinks it wouldn't get used enough, so I could do with some ammunition!

Another one who might be interested in air fryers too. Perhaps we ought to start a special thread?

                  Evening folks.

We’ve had every weather bar snow today! Every time I thought I’d have my walk it started raining heavily or the winds picked up so I went to the Bargains shop instead and stocked-up on a few bits and bobs.

I bought an air fryer last year and it’s great for anything that you would usually heat up in the oven (jacket spud, meatballs, breaded fish etc) and it reduces the cooking time by about a third I reckon. However, mine is only small so no good for a full meal for 2 or more people. Great for warming pastries though so definitely saves on putting oven on for warming something up etc. If it was larger, I would consider trying a cake, but I expect the temp and time would need some trial and error and that’s a risk with ingredients being quite expensive etc.

I hope everyone is ok. May you all have a restful night.

Good morning all. Sun, blue sky and still air this morning. Huge contrast to yesterday but happy to see it! I left putting my bins out until late last night - when the wind had died down - as I wanted to avoid having to pick up 'stuff' in the Cres. had they been blown over. All is fine. Off to Bestie's today and I'm taking all my knitted eggs to start stitching them up. I am thinking of maybe putting Creme Eggs into them rather than stuffing them and giving them to small people at Church. I also need to make i-cords for them all so will put my double pointed needles and yarn in my bag too. Hope you all have lovely days.

                      Good morning all.

The journey to Brighton went smoothly yesterday. I thought there was a lot of traffic but Cedric said it wasn't bad. I'm used to France and Norfolk! The hospital car park was nearly full, a bit confusing and very expensive. I don't think they should charge so much. They are free in France.

Cedric's daughter was much better than yesterday, less headache, awake more, able to talk but still sometimes a bit confused. We will go to the hospital this morning and this afternoon to give her husband a break as he needs to work. She likes to have someone familiar there.

Our small hotel, B&B is comfortable and very clean. The owner is lovely. She's given us a better room, with a sea view, than the one we had booked.

                        Much brighter and calmer today.
At Capel Manor yesterday, met a new volunteer, who also works in the Japanese garden. The senior gardener is away in Japan for a month so we are in charge :yikes:.
Mostly we will just be keeping things tydy and weeded.

Cherry trees planted as part of the Hanami project with Japan. One of these trees was planted by the Japanese ambassador.

What a wonderful display there, @Allotment Boy.
Today is set aside for tending to the seedlings and weeding.
I've got a beef casserole burbling in the slow cooker, to be had with jackets, so I don't have to break off and spend precious time cooking later. Well, that's the plan!

More clouds scudding about today but still some bright sunny spells and that dreadful wind. If I wrap up against the wind I get hot and bothered and if I take off my fleece I freeze so I give in. Apart from seeing the chooks for their daily treat I shall be pottering indoors, out of the draught.

I have never liked Creme eggs @Ladybird4 as they're far too sweet and sickly but no doubt the children will love them.

I hope Cedric's daughter continues to improve @Busy-Lizzie and I'm sure your presence is a relief to both Cedric and her husband.

OH is golfing today and Possum is on a training course so I shall go and sew. The weekly shop will be done tomorrow and we're going to Les Sables so Possum can mooch round the shops as they're holding a spring "braderie" - reduced prices on all sorts of stuff from tat to clothing and footwear. I've booked lunch at an Italian restaurant on the Quai georges V in La Chaume and Possum went from humphing about what the French do to pizza to deciding the menu looks so good we have to go lots of times. They also do a daily board with fish dishes so I'll be happy.

Hello all! I'm part way home from babysitting, and have stocked up with bits & pieces from the big supermarket here in Ennis, the county town. Daughter is definitely burning the candle at both ends, running a business as well as homeschooling the girls...

                                Good afternoon to you all!

Cool with snow not far away and a very cold Tramontana wind coming down. It was quite cold and wobbly on the bike run this morning, but I went to the supermarket to get a few bits and pieces and that was blowy. It's blowing a hooley as @Obelix-Vendée would say. My car is in the mechanic's, so I am getting around by bike more than usual. What with the price of car fuel! Diesel seen around here at 2€26litre by one of the ladies at Homework Help!!

I noticed that you posted @Badly_Maintained Great to hear that your mum is wearing the boot and seems to be getting better. Hang in there!!

I was so sorry to read that Cedric's daughter was hospitalised @Busy-Lizzie but then glad also that she is pulling through. Wow! What a shock it must have been for everyone. Kind of the Air B n B to change your room to a better one.

Take it easy at work @AuntyRach Softly, softly....

Air Fryers: @Liriodendron A couple of years ago, I was interested in purchasing one and I asked you when the site was on GW. The replies I got were positive so I got one from Lidl and am well pleased with it. It's not a big one as I'm on my tod, but very handy for sausages or a chop or oven-fried chips. It doesn't do fancy stuff - but it does me.

Now. Has anyone heard of these ground or earth sheets? Apparently, they are great for restless sleepers. I do walk around (in the summer) barefoot - when I can. Am I grounded? I would be interested in anyone's opinion. Do we, as gardeners, need grounding?

I've been busy digging, weeding, planting and sweeping. I am also thinking about having a garage built. There is a small one here - not big enough for the car. So I have paperwork to complete for the Council - don't need a building permit, just a declaration of works. Then I want 3 quotes. There is a Home Exhibition this weekend so I will trot along with my friend to look at garage doors. Builders are very laid back here. Lackadaisical even!!!

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone.
