Hedge Trimmer Recommendations Please

I have one hedge, two lelandi(sp) bushes (that I'm allergic to when cutting with shears) and a few other random bushes that could do with a prune every now and again to stop them from taking over.

ANy recommendations for cheap(ish) hedge trimmers?

With the Credit-crunch,you wont go far wrong with Argos products......Cheap as chips

 

Either husquvarna or stihl, other makes are impossible to start and spares are an issue.

Quality chainsaws THAT ARE husquvarna or stihl.......but if you have won the lottery ...........lol

For a basic bit of kit [like i adviced] check your local Shops..............Cheap and simple unless you want to cut down half of the amazon

 

The cheap stuff always breaks after a few years, wereas a quality machine will go on and on, proof is to look at the machines awiting repairs at the dealers.

The domestic spec stihls and husquvarnas are very good machines, and a class away from the argos type muculoch etc.

The husquvarna 123 HDC that i linked to is £229 so not that expensive.

Your basically saying weather its small,big,medium,long,red,blue,orange,or big,or even bigger get a pro chainsaw........

Money is an issue so no husqvana or stihl for me just yet! I'm still a student for another couple of months, my idea is to use the hedge trimmer until it dies and hopefully by that time i'll have (a) moved house (!) or (b) be in a position to buy a better quality product.

I was just wondering if there's a better one of the cheaper hedgetrimmers than any other. I shall go see what's on sale this weekend and hope for the best lol

 

That's just over what I have to live off for a month! so not quite my definition of 'not expensive'!!!!!

 

Try an electric one, far less hassle than a petrol machine and they cut just as well, depending on what you buy.

If you only need it to keep the hedge in its current state, then there are new generations of battery models just about to come on to the market, these have Li-Ion batteries (Lithium-Ion) that charge quickly (80% in 30 mins) and don't lose their charge when left in the shed. Plus you can top up the charge if only a little down without causing a problem.

I find when using a battery machine I tend to do it little and often, because there is so less hassle. Just get it out, use for a few mins to trim back the new growth. Then stick it back in the shed for next time.

If you want to cut the hedge back then a mains electric one is needed.

 

Take a look at Screwfix.com. I bought a Bosch hedge trimmer last week and used it at the weekend it was excellent. It was reduced from £110 to £80. Regards.

 

don't bother going for stihl or husqvarner if you are a not a professional landscaper as they are far too expensive for what you need. Ryobi petrol products are ok for diy and semi professional use at a reasonable price.

 

Id say Ryobi arnt to bad but might be a bit on the heavy side cant beat a sthil but not worth the money juat for your own garden if you ask me
