    oh, ok.

In that case I would suggest not to bother with a pump that requires a transformer as they cost more than those with out, and are not as good as mains pump.

Usual precautions apply to the installation though.

This is true, but as I said earlier unless you want "gushing water" low voltage pumps are suitable. It also avoids the necessity of employing the services of an electrician to keep a garden electrical installation "legal" which could turn out to be the biggest expense.

I know nothing, but Mr. F'smum is related to an electrician - the same electrician who put in the dedicated thingummy which supplies the power to Mr. F'smum's workshop. We've consulted said rellie who carefully explained what was needed (not that I listened ... man talk 'n all that! :ywn:). Anyway, he was shown what we have in mind, there then followed more discussion and the upshot is, Mr. F'smum will 'create' and Mr. Electrician will supply and affix something to (and or in) it which will allow water to be pumped to a height of about 30" and thence through 'tunnels', overspill and pebbles trickle down again, without any danger of electrocution.

Thanks again for the all the helpful suggestions.

If only it were that easy.

Mr. F'smum is a great 'planner' (if you get my meaning!) on top of which, he spends 6-7 months a year working in The States so getting this thing 'built' could take time. This is, after all, the man who promised to make me a footstool when I was pregnant with our first child. Three daughters later (the eldest of whom is now in her late 20s) and of the footstool there is still no sign, thus the holding of breath for said picture is not recommended!
