Where is the best location to site a cold frame, and in which direction should it face? Should it have a paving stone base or direct to the soil? How high or low should it be? Any other considerations such as best materials to build with or other unknown elements?

    Many thanks.

My cold frame is a "heath Robinson" affair! made out of an old fold out shower screen from Freecycle!
It is the traditional shape and does a great job. Safe too because it is made of perspex and wood.

As long as it gets some sun anywhere should be good If its made of glass I would site it somehwere away from the wind!
Mine is sited west facing and I have put some weed control matting in the bottom and covered that with gravel which does help to deter slugs.
I use grow bags or pots in mine and i find it very useful as an adjunct to my greenhouse.
    Hope this helps

South facing is best I think. It'll get more sun that way.
