    Hello everyone,

I need a bit of advise about my rhubarb. It was planted last year, but i now need to move it to accommodate my polytunnel.

Is it safe to move it when it has just started to grow, and will i be able to eat any this year, always supposing that i dont kill it with the move.

    Many thanks in advance.

Yes its tough as old boots, but do it NOW rather than waiting until it has put on more growth.

No, let it recover for a year

Hi Dans, yes you can move your Rhubarb now and you won't kill it as it's a tough plant. The general practice is not to pull your Rhubarb until the 3rd year which gives it time to establish itself and give you a better crop. So the word is "Patience"!!! But do move it soon don't leave it for a couple of weeks.

Your sister wouldn't nick your Rhubarb would she, Ziggy?? The split Rhubarb I've got in buckets of compost are
pushing out stalks and leafs as though it's around May!! I'm not going to pull mine for a couple of years.

Split the clump in two, replant and harvest one lot this year and not get a big crop and leave the other to develop for next and following years.

As has been said - tough as old boots and a b8888r to dig out after three of four years. Had to use a pickaxe on mine!

We split some of our rhubarb in the autumn. One of them had roots that were 3" diameter :rolleyespink:
