    After posting this,
    http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/...-need-help-wild-flower-garden.html#post425161
Shiney was kind enough to post that ground elder is a bigger problem that I first thought.
After doing to research I am now wondering what the best way to approach this problem is.
This is where I am at now, note the two large piles of GE.

Should I put grass down and keep mowing? Wait for the ground elder to return and blast it with roundup?

Any help guys would be greatly appreciated.

Spruce, Sorry to disagree with you but I wouldn't chance doing it that way. Some ground elder is very difficult to cope with and if, by chance, any pieces of root get end up in the grass clipping and get put in the compost they could infest the rest of the garden.

I would be inclined to wait for the G E to come up again and then, carefully, spray it (don't get spray on any other greenery). Wait two to three weeks (systemics take a while to work down to the roots), clear the dead stuff off the surface and bin it. Then wait to see whether any more comes up (it almost certainly will) and repeat the process. I'd then be inclined to wait a further period to check whether it is still coming up because you have dug the area and some tiny pieces of root will have been broken off, buried deeper and may take some time to show.

Bag up those piles of G E and take down the dump.

    Good luck :thumb:

    Cheers guys,
I took a huge amount out of it and have levelled it. The plan was initially to have a wild flower bed but I now think a lawn and regular mowing might help get rid of it? I then planned to heavily mulch around the rose bushes and yellow hedge like thing, grow grass then keep mowing and using round up on any elder that shows up.
I am pretty sure there is some in the hedge still.

I dont mind not using lawn clippings on the compost, to be fair this is just the start, my garden is a good ten times bigger out the back and its full of elder to. I have another smaller bit of garden beside this bit that also needs digging and levelling.

Because the back of the house is so un-level it might need rotovating so this wont help my cause any, I think I should really concentrate on control rather than eradication , I'l never get rid of it totally I don't think.
