    Hi and welcome to GC.

Unfortunately I'm not that creative, so my advice is probably not great, but here's my opinion.

If the general garden design is formal, with lots of straight edges and uniform planting, then go for simple geometry. If its more natural, then just go with the flow. In other words, just make it so it suits everything else in the garden.

post a photo, then it becomes easier to see where it is going, what else is nearby and we will be able to give our personal recomendations

Well, as usual Clueless's advice is spot on.:D But dim is also right, it would help to see a pic of your garden. Also how big are you thinking of making the length and width of the border??:D

For what it's worth, if the rest of the garden is in straight lines, then it might look 'out of kilter' to have a bed in the middle of the lawn which has curved edges, also, a straight-edged bed will be quicker and easier to mow around and the edges will take less time.

Personally, I prefer something more 'curved' (there isn't a straight path, border or bit of lawn in the whole of my garden), but then my garden doesn't conform to any 'this is what you should do' guidelines - I don't necessarily want to see all the garden at once from my window and I like growing taller things at the front of those bits of border that stick out, that way it's a constant surprise and delight to 'discover' the smaller things hidden behind them. But that's just me.
