I have a china one on the ledge of the chimney over my cooker ... it's an old picture but he's still hanging off the edge to the right ...
Just checked the members list but he's not been here yet. We did have a Bill Stickers, but we banned him.
Hi Micky. Yes, Kilroy is lurking in the right-hand corner (from l-r it's Tigger & Piglet, then two pigs cuddling, then two ducks, then Woodstock & Snoopy then Kilroy ...the pigs, ducks and W&S are S&P shakers, all are china). I have to lean to the left from the computer to see him as it's a rather large kitchen/diner and there is a peninsular with double-sided overhead glass cupboards above between me and the kitchen ... that's 1/4 of it and the kitchen table is tiled to match the kitchen (done by my clever t'other half). What was Kilroy famous for? .... I am thinking real estate but don't ask why ...
Hey Victoria there is no conclusive evidence that Kilroy ever existed at all .. it dates back to the States and world war two .. There are several theories but nowt set in stone .. it became popular in the UK in the early 50 s Kilroy was here etc .. quite funny really .. Micky Kilroy was here is an American popular culture expression, often seen in graffiti. Its origins are debated, but the phrase and the distinctive accompanying doodle—a bald-headed man (possibly with a few hairs) with a prominent nose peeking over a wall with the fingers of each hand clutching the wall—is widely known among U.S. residents who lived during World War II.
I lived in America from 1952-57 and then 1963-1977 and my t'other half is American ... do you think I know if from there then ...
Well, I was in the right place at the right time for this incredible character ... thank you Micky and Mandy for reminding me of these things which, as you get older you forget.
