Hi Rosa, good to hear you are getting your problems sorted out:gnthb: A friend I was talking to in our village last week said that those of us that are active people tend to suffer more with health problems as we get :old:er than those people who are couch potatoes,so that must be why we are falling apart:hehe: Love your azalea photo above.I got three plants the other month from Tesco's reduced down to 60p each and have just repotted them this morning and the sort of compost they like.I will have to post some photo's of when they were in flower:D

Care, sorry to hear you aqre feeling rough this morning.I think a lot of people are not sure as to what sort of goverment we are going to have as I was a bit too young last time we had this problem so we need one of the more experienced voters to explain it all to us,although for us without children it doesn't matter who is in power we get nothing from any of them so for us it is a no win situation:(

    Good morning everyone,
I sat up and watched the election results until 3.15 when our local result came in. We have now moved from staunch Labour to a Conservative majority of 11%.

There was a break in this Labour stronghold during the Thatcher era where we had a Conservative MP for 8 years (although the local authority had 85% Labour councillors). I've known all the local MPs that we have had since 1964 and they all worked hard for the constituency.

Our new MP is also dedicated to the community and I wish him luck.

During all that period, from 1964, well over half of the local councillors have been cr*p at their jobs and should have won awards for making some of the most ridiculous decisions ever

Kandy, nothing ever benefits the working class peasants - nor the pensioners :old:. We've always had to dig ourselves out of the 'doo-doo'. :hehe:

I have never got involved in local politics apart from regularly telling the councillors how bad a job they are doing . I can almost hear the groans when I walk into any public meetings :lollol::lollol:. I also tell them when they have done a good job - which doesn't occur often :hehe: .

Clara, we and Oscar the cat have a good system. He lives in his own house in the greenhouse and has a bowl for cat biscuits just outside the front of his house (his house is in a heated propagator :hehe:k-l). He always leaves some biscuits for his midnight and early morning snacks and can eat them without getting out of his house :thmb: k-l

    Have a great day :D

    Morning all (sorry...afternoon!)

Glad to see our Rosa back! It was quiet here without you Rosa :D

Am still sorting boxes and rooms out. It is quiet here but been too busy to think about it too much.

Clara, have a snooze when nobody is looking!
Kandy - enjoy your meal but what happens if you do a return gesture? :p
Shiney, Oscar sounds a smart cat there - Methinks he rules the roost :D
Penny, rain not so good but it is dull here and chilly.

Hello everyone. We have gone from a Labour MP to a Conservative one here too, Shiney. The new guy is called Mr Reckless. So that sounds reassuring. My cat is the most spoilt creature on earth, Shiney, but I don't mind because he is a very elderly chap and has been a wonderful friend for a very long time.

Think I'll go to bed early tonight ... was so dopey after staying up to watch the non-election that I managed to bash into a door jamb ... am currently doing a passable impression of Elephant Man.

    Good morning everyone,

Welcome to a cold and damp day as the start of a hung parliament - which is exactly what should happen to some of them :hehe:. If Cameron and Clegg have any sense they will take some time over deciding whether to get together. That will leave Brown in charge for a while and he will have to bring in some drastic fiscal measurements (anyone would have to) that will get him extremely disliked. (Me cynical! - Never! :skp: :hehe:). That would allow the next election (which would happen within 6 months to a year) to be more decisive. The world economy doesn't like a country that hasn't got a settled government.

No he doesn't! But I think I had better check that with him :rotfl::rotfl:

Everything in the garden is growing like mad now and it's a struggle to keep up. I managed to get quite a bit done but my chest is not too good and by the evening I start to flag :(. It still didn't stop me from going to the bridge club last night :thumb:.

I think I shall just potter around today and try to be better for a match tomorrow. I'm captaining my county team against Cambs and Hunts and it will be a tough match. Win or lose, we shall enjoy ourselves :).

I think I shall fill in my tax return this morning (it has been sitting on my desk for weeks) so I can get my usual rebate from the taxman. That is another thing that always annoys me (grumpy old man :old:). The taxman insists that my piddly little private pension has to be taxed by the pension provider. My state pension isn't high enough to use up my tax allowance and, as I have no other income, the rest of my allowance should be set against my private pension. So he sits on my tax money all year and I have to claim it back . He doesn't allow the pension provider to use my allowance. Well, I suppose it helps towards their staff parties :hehe:.

Now that I've got that off my chest maybe my chest will feel better :lollol:

    Have a great day :D

    Hi Penny and everyone

It's miserable here in Kent and following my little argument with the door frame I've had to wander around the supermarket looking like I've done several rounds with Mike Tyson :o. Still, I've come home with some new plants as well as the week's essentials (needed some greenery in the trolley to hide behind :) ).

    Good mornng everyone,

Penny sounds like your weather is topsy turvey like ours is although when I read my Edith Holden diary for 1906 a lot of the weather she had then is the same as we are having now so i don't beleive all this global warming rubbish:D

Shiney, sorry to hear your chest is still bad and hope Mrs Shiney is sorting it out with some Vic:DSounds like you are still managing to enjoy your hobbies though:gnthb:

I don't know what you pensioners are doing down your end of the country because all my pensioner friends are enjoying the fruits of high interest rates back in the eighties so are able to have holidays every other month, new cars and they eat out a few times a week, free bus passes, free swimming, fuel allowances etc etc so life for pensioners can't be so bad:wink::scratch:I just hope that if Cammeron does run this country he doesn't finish off destorying it like thatcher did in the eighties:(It is a pity that they can't all work together in running this country of ours instead of arguing in parliment like a bunch of kids:D

Jasmine, this meal we are going to today is a Thank You from our neighbour for all the times I let their dog out or take him for a walk when they can't get back from work so looking forward to a very nice lunch with lots of pleasant chatter and laughter:D

Well we had rain for most of the day yesterday so at least the garden and allotment got watered, but I expect it will carry on until Mr Kandy goes back to work tomorrow. It's funny how it stays dry all week and then come the weekend when he wants to get out on the garden or allotment it chucks it down:p

Oh and by the way,I gave Mr Kandy has formatted my 4gb memory card when he put the photos on the computer, thinking i hadn't got many on the card and now I have lost loads of phtos of my spring flowers plus all the photos I took of the building work going on next door so we have lost the whole lot.He tried to recover them with a programme we have got but Fuji has something installed in their older cameras that stops you from retrieving formated photos so now they have all gone and I can't put up all my lovely photos to show you:mad:

Hope you all have a great day:)

    Good morning everyone,

It rained last night but has stopped now and looks as though it might brighten up. :thumb:

Hi woo, I hope you are keeping well :)

Kandy, sorry about your photos :(. Did Mr Kandy format the card before downloading them to the computer?
The only retired friends of mine whose pensions benefitted from the boom in the 80's were those that retired then or those that worked fairly high up in the big companies. The rest of them had their pensions ruined by the government during the 90's. Mine was always cr*p :hehe: as I couldn't afford to start one until I was nearly 50.
The bus pass is great :thumb: but unfortunately we don't have any busses here :lollol:. We don't know anything about free swimming as there isn't a swimming pool in any of the nearest six towns.
We do have the advantage of eating out quite a lot because most of the pubs and some of the restaurants do cheap lunches for wrinklies :yho:. They are usually very busy because the meals are excellent and cheaper than we could do them ourselves. The other day I had roast beef (very generous portion), roast and boiled spuds, cabbage, broccoli, cauli, carrots and an enormous yorkshire pud plus a big dessert and a cuppa for £6. Brilliant :gnthb:.
Most of our friends go away on a lot short breaks as they have decided to spend all their savings (kids inheritance) enjoying themselves as the governments seem to grab it otherwise.
I think our generation have been fairly lucky because for a lot of us our parents decided to buy their own homes and we are now benefitting from the sale of them (not quite so good if you have loads of brothers and sisters). We always say 'thank you' to mum when we go in our summerhouse or go away on holiday as she is the one that is paying for it. :luv:

penny, your weather certainly seems to have its ups and downs. It must make gardening very awkward.

Clare, hope you recover soon :thmb:. 'Tired from watching the election' - yeh, we've heard that one before :hehe:. How much did you drink? :rotfl:

    Have a great day :D

Good morning from a very cool, damp and grey Kent. Am hoping it brightens up a little as I'd like to head down to Lullingstone's World Garden - they have their big plant sale on today, and quite a few growers there with more unusual varieties available. Just need to wait on my grocery delivery to arrive and will head down there around lunch time.

Penny you have snow?????? OMG - I think even in Nova Scotia the latest I ever saw snow was mid April! Though we did have the log fire going last night - was nice and cosy for family movie night with the kids.

Jason worked a 40th birthday party last night - came home with some lovely fresh prawns and lovely steaks for everybody - so we'll be doing a surf and turf bbq dinner tonight - looking forward to it :) I do love it when there's lots of fresh leftovers from these events!

Shiney I hope your chest is feeling a bit better as the day goes on.
Clara - haven't met you before but hello! Hope the doorjamb has forgiven you :)
Kandy - hoping the pains go away or at least the doc can help you out with them
Rosa - you too! Love the azalea pic - used to have lots of azaleas and rhodies in my garden in Vancouver - they were always centre of the berms and looked lovely elevated up like that.
Woo - off to look for some of your recent pics, as I'm sure there must be some on here and they're always lovely to look at especially on a miserable looking morning!
Jazmine - hope youre enjoying the peace and quiet of home - if you miss the laundry, I'll send my lads up for a weekend! lol

Have a great day everybod and enjoy :)
