I was in Nantwich, Cheshire today walking through the Market and stopped to talk to a Plant Nursery Stall Holder. He knows I'm a plant fanatic and we were talking about things I'd bought from him including some Gold Lace Primula. Anyway, he said, as a side thought, "I've got some in the Van" and went to find them only to appear with a tray asking "do you want 'em?". "How much for what's in the tray?" I said without getting a good look. "A Fiver" he grinned and knowing he always has good stock I gave him a Fiver and got:

    4 Primula and 4 Saxifraga. Well, I think I got a bargain!!:snork:

Nice one, we all like a bargain.
I used to like visiting Morrey's Nursery in Cheshire. Not sure if that is spelled right. Quite reasonable prices and a nice variety. Have you been there ?

I can trump that:dancy:an elderly neighbour moved out last week before he went to his new bungalow he said help your self to any plants you want,so I did 2x yellow primula about 2' across split up and made 24 plants and 4 roses and 3 aquilegia not sure of the colour but not long to wait!
He did say help yourself to more if you want, and I wish I had,he was a council tenent and as soon as he had gone the have sent the team in to rewire and replumb the place, and dumped rubbish i.e plaster and floor coverings right on top of all the plants, demolished his garage (asbestos) and the lean-to greenhouse which was on its last legs otherwise I would have rescued it.
The one I did want and missed was gypsophilia I could not find the root, does it die down in winter?

I haven't been to Morreys Plant Nursery, off the A51, in years, Gazania. I remember it was a good Nursery then so it doesn't surprise me to hear it still is:thumbsup:. To be honest, I tend to buy from anywhere depending what's for sale and what appeals to me.
I do buy a lot of herbaceous perennials from Arley Hall as I go there at least twice a year for the gardens which are magnificent. The Plant Nursery is fairly small but carries a good range of interesting plants at pretty low prices, much better than a regular Plant Nursery. I like Crug Farm Nursery in Wales for unusual and exotic plants and it's always worth a visit.

I do love a bargain and they look lovely and healthy :blue thumb:

My best bargain this year was buying a camellia from Aldi and discovering that it was actually three small plants with separate root systems, so I've separated them out. I found the same with a Jury's Yellow which I bought elsewhere and got two plants out of that. All in all five camellias for the price of two :snork:

ARMANDII, that's a good price. :dbgrtmb:

The best deals around here are at the professional nurseries that also sell to the public. The best one, always superb condition plants, charges 80p per pot for 3.5" pots. Which is less than half the price that the garden centres charge.
