    Hi all,

Friend just back from Malaysia wants to know what this plant is.

It is a garden escapee growing in the Cameron Highlands and is about 4' high. The leaves are an interesting shape.

    I've tried but cannot identify.

    Hope the photos work

It looks similar( although smaller), to a plant Kedi Gato wanted IDing a couple of months ago growing in Florida.
I'm not sure but I think Bob came up with the answer, cant remember what it was now though.

Hi has been and also pete ...

The plant from Sis in Florida is Tithonia diversifolia (Bolivian Sunflower) and I thought of that as well as the Euryops species when I looked in earlier. I keep looking at the leaves .... and the Florida one COULD be right ....

I shall be starting some of the Tithonia seeds off soon .. not sure about Bob, although I sent him some I seem to have lost him ...

I love this forum. It introduces you to all manner of plants you don't come across in the local garden centre.

Having grown Tithonia rotundifolia for the first time this year, I will have to try this some time. I read on one site that it can reach 25 feet. 25 feet flowers would really wind my neighbour up. :D

This is the only one I could find. http://www.b-and-t-world-seeds.com/carth.asp?species=Tithonia diversifolia&sref=77811

I keep coming across B&T when Googling. They are French and seem to stock more seeds than any other company, but I have never tried them. They are into the wholesale trade, often selling seeds by the kg. But they will also supply 1 gram (300 seeds) of Tithonia diversifolia for â?¬7. Its a bit more than the usual seed prices, but I don't think that matters if you are getting something that is so unusual.

I haven't decided yet what seeds to get for next year, but I am coming round to the view that 'weird and wonderful' can be a lot of fun. It must be the influence of members of this forum. :D

Vicky - thats very kind of you. I was trying to post without making it look like a request for some seeds, because I know you are so generous and would offer. I will tell you what - you grow it and get a quantity of seed and we can talk about it next year.

As I said, I am really getting into the 'weird and wonderful' plants - with the encouragement of you and others. The most valuable service that you all can provide is information. Once you have the information, everything else can be made to happen. But without the information nothing happens. I am currently growing Brugmansiaa and Daturas with seeds from Walnut, which have done wonderfully. I am growing two types of Echium, some of which are already two feet high. I can't wait to see what they will do next year. And I already have plans to try some other Echiums next year. Also I am pleased to have got Fuchsia arborescens flowering.

My next door neighbour is a very good friend and also a keen gardener but, unlike me, the sort that doesn't want to know what the full plant name is. So I enjoy winding him up. Earlier this year I said I had some spare Fuchsia plants, that I had grown from seed - did he want some. I specifically asked him if he wanted to know their full name and how big they would grow - knowing full well he wouldn't want to know, and he didn't. So I gave him these plants and he said he would put them in his hanging baskets. Well they are now over three feet high and will continue to grow to 15 feet, if he overwinters them. :D

I do however suffer from it being not very hot, up here. You kindly sent me some cuttings of Leonotus, a couple of years ago. Last year it grew well, but it was so cold it didn't flower. This year, I was hoping it would flower earlier - but now I am starting to see the red buds appearing. Its most exciting waiting to see a flower that you have never seen before.

So, thanks for the very kind offer, but I shall wait till you have got some up and running, and a good quantity of seed. In the meantime - keep all that knowledge and information coming. :thku:
