:) You are more than welcome Peter ... you are so generous yourself but mostly I have failed miserably with your gifts as I am not good with seed.

Now, in saying that .... what's this Fuchsia that is 15 foot tall (I think I did see a pic of a strange flowered one in your garden thread so must look again) ... but Fuchsias like shade and moisture ... something I cannot promise to them sadly .... :(

Yes, you could really get your neighbour going with a 25 foot daisy tree .... :hehe:

Vicky - I don't have any seed of Fuchsia arborescens yet, it has only just flowered and may not even set seed. But you are very welcome if I get some.

I had a little Google - though there is not much on it. However I do feel sorry for newcomers to the gardening world. The internet is full of conflicting information. One site said 4 to 8 feet, and the above site says 18 feet. One site said hardy and another says damaged by temperatures below 5C. One site said it flowered just in July and August, and other sites say it flowers for 12 months of the year!

The fun is that you learn every time you go on this forum or Google. I didn't realise that Fuchsias prefer full sun, though they do like damp roots and modest temperatures. But you never know till you have tried it.

Just to be a bit more confusing :hehe: . When we were in the Amazon Forest there were fuschias over 40ft high but I don't know what variety they were . They flowered high in the canopy and down in the undergrowth.

:) Hi has bean ... posted you the seeds this afternoon ... good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Peter, I really don't think Fucshias do well here. In saying that, I have a standard indoor plant variety that I have had outside on the ledge with my Bromeliads, Forest Cactus, house Cyclamen, Begonias, etc, under one of the Jacarandas for years but it doesn't do anything spectacular.

Shiney, now I would like to see a 40 foot Fucshia ... perhaps you have a pic for us?

Hi Victoria :thmb:, I can't remember whether I took any photos as it was 20 years ago . If I can find any photos from then I'll see whether I can photograph them with my digi. I have a vague recollection that the fuschias climbed the other trees.

I do remember that it was difficult taking photos because of the poor light. :(

As soon as I saw your pics, HBC, I knew it was the Bolivian Sunflower! It looks exactly like the ones over here in Florida. Good luck with the seeds that Sis sent you.

Sis, the cuttings I planted up in pots last Spring and left in the kids garden here did well. I left them in a semi-shady place with regular watering and have now moved them to our garden here. They didn't take well to being moved and put in the garden, drooped immediately but TG perked up after a couple of days and are now going strong and producing new leaves. I'll take a pic soon and post it up here.

The two clippings that I took back to Germany and potted up did well, after a slow start, and even did well when planted out in the garden about two months ago. However, I doubt that they will survive the winter, at least, not the above ground parts. Who knows, perhaps the root will with a bit of winter cover.

Shiney, like Sis, I would love to see a Fuchsia that size! It must be wonderful sight.

    Hi Victoria,

Thank you for all of the seeds and the little comments. From my reading up it looks like the all seeds should be sown in the spring.

    I will keep you posted.
