    I can't resist a bargain and today I bagged a few!

    Jan 2013 plants (2).JPG

The silver aluminium planters I thought were quite attractive for a fiver, stacked them to put them in the car and the cordyline I popped into the top of them because it had very little soil and would have fallen over.

Driving along, and viewing the cordyline sticking out of the silver planter from my rear view mirror, I thought: "Pretty"! :spinning:

Then I got thinking .... 3 of the planters have a pretty cutout in them and the other two do not. So I thought, maybe I could put purple cordylines in the three cutout planters and then something else in the other two and put all five planters around one side of my pond? But then, what to put in the other two planters (which would be sandwiched between the other three, like so: XOXOX ) Or maybe I should have all 5 the same? Or would that just be too, too much?

But, just having a solo plant in each planter ... would that look too stark? Should I plant something (and if so, what!?) to cascade down the sides of the planters?

    What are your thoughts?

        Thank you, crg :)

They only had 5 (which is just as well really because I would have been very tempted to get more  ):heehee:

ETA: just checked online and there are more available; think Mr Mum may have to find some overtime :roflol:

Depending on where they are to go, there are lots of options.

If you wanted a neat, formal look a row of five planters each planted the same would be lovely. Personally I think it would look neater and more formal not to have anything hanging down. You could even use the five to make a temporary hedge/boundary/divider in your garden.

Or they would look good in the front garden spaced out along a wall. Or along the base of a boring looking bit of fence.

It would also be nice to have a profusion of different planting in the containers but that would attract attention to the mass of colours rather than to the shape of the planters and it might look bitty. Simple repetition of container/cordyline would really emphasise the interesting shapes without being at all fussy.

You could have a different cordyline in each pot.

But whatever you decide, it's easy to change next year if you don't like it.

I bought a couple of the aluminium ones last year at a tenner, at a fiver, I'll have to get some more!

Here's mine last year, one with a sambucus in, the other with a dahlia.

the garden is a mix of contemporary and trad mum, and i think they fit in quite well. the ones i've ordered are going in the front, side by side with something like a bamboo or a miscanthus in each, as i think something tall works well with them. i'll pick mine up later and have a looksey what they have re plants too, see if any bargains are to be had. if not, then a trip to the local nursery at the weekend will be on the cards.

The plants at my Homebase were a (relatively) poor show. Better bargains to be had were at B&Q (and a greater range) including .... palms that Santa brought you (and on sale! )

Went for my planters ,only got 4, plain ones, whats the point of stock control. Would have been really cross if less than 4.
Picked up an ornamental grass for 99p.
So have a horsetail bamboo out front ,spreading like wildfire so that`s the first to go in there. Will think for rest, something similarly architectural.

Hmmm  did you check the online link first pam? When you click on the actual product there is also a button for check stock and reserve; you type in your postcode and it tells you how many, if any, are available and you reserve them to pick up in store.

I only found 5 in my local one, but, last night when I check the online, the store has 34!

Last Autumn they had a particular promotion on, which I capitalised on; however one of the items was a "jaded" so I asked for a discount on the one :heehee: They couldn't give me discount, so I asked if they had any in stock out the back .... checked on the till: 140!!! They sent a young lad to find them (took a while!) he came back and said there were none, but, the manager decided to go check for herself. Yup, they really did have 140, all boxed up in the storeroom. Stock control does work at my local one; can't account for the lad not being able to see the wood for the trees though :heehee:
