Kristen - I didn't realise that - thank you. It explains where the first leaf will come from - I was expecting to see a single cotylodon leaf, and presumably the spur is the first leaf. Its funny how most monocots are small and you don't pay them much attention. For some reason I thought that a monocot, that had the potential to reach 20 ft or more, would be different.
