Wasps in compost

    Hi

    Do I need to worry about the number of wasps crawling around in my new compost bin? They seem to have gained entry through the little trap door at the bottom, which I have now sealed up, but still can't get rid of them all. They obviously like my fruit scraps.

    It's highly unlikely the wasps are nesting in your compost heap so it's almost certain they're just visitors.

    Don't worry about them; just be careful when you add material. As you suggest, they like your mushy fruit.

    Basically what you have it what we all have, a wasp smörgåsbord! Not only rotting fruity scraps but also all the insects that inhabit the bin. Wasps are great recyclers and unless they are causing problems a best left undisturbed. Just tuck your jeans inside your wellies when you go to tip more stuff in :lol:
