Last year due to the wonderful dry summer I was able to really tackle a few neglected flower beds. In the process I dug up literally 100s of Daffodils. Not wanting them in the beds I either gave them away or planted them in other places. I did also plant some in pots, my intention was to see which ones were nice and keep then discard the rest. ALL the ones in pots and the ones planted elsewhere have come up the same, just bog standard plain yellow. The bulbs came from all over the place and I do/did? have maybe 10 different Daffodil/Narcissus varieties in the garden. I am also pretty convinced that more of the Daffodils I have planted by our burn have also changed to plain yellow. Is this possible or have, I as I suspect just got even more gaga?! If anybody would like some plain yellow Daffodils just send me the postage! CIMG2756.JPG

Looking at that picture, I didn't notice any daffodils, I was just looking at the rill. Stunning!

Are daffodils capable of reverting to the species? I didn't think so, or it would take ages. What a mystery!

Thanks everybody for your kind words. I am very lucky to live in a really lovely part of Scotland altho it can get a little "interesting" if we have a severe winter.
Agree Madahhlia, it seems really strange, I'm all but positive that some have reverted. All I do know is that there has been a garden here since Georgian times but why they should decide (if they have and I haven't gone bonkers) to revert now who knows?

What a lovely picture!....I'm originally from Scotland but am living in the South East of England. (I digress) but what made me smile was not the fantastic picture, but the use of the word "burn" I never hear it down here lol.

              Thank you :)

I like the burn, it looks almost perfect, unreal almost, very nice.

As to daffs, I find the more fancy kinds tend to weaken after a year or so and just produce leaves, whereas the more basic ones just multiply and go on flowering.

Hmm hadn't thought of that, good idea. I will phone my pal and see if the bulbs I gave her are some of the different ones I have. On reflection perhaps I also picked out the biggest bulbs and maybe they were the plain big yellow ones which I'm pretty sure are King Alfred.

 The plain yellows & especially King Alfreds are big bulbs, the coloured & other smaller flowered Narcissi are usually smaller bulbs.. I do hope your friend has the colours because now you can do an exchange if you want... :spinning:

Well done Marley Farley, popped over today to see my pal who I gave loads of my Daffodils to and sure enough her garden is a blaze of Daffodils and not a plain yellow Daffodil amongst them:thud:. No big deal just solves my thinking the funny farm was beckoning sooner than I had invisaged:)
