    Hey everyone,
I had turf laid about 6 weeks ago. Due to me working away, I left the grass as instructed for about 3 weeks and it grew to maybe 5/6 inches. It was regularly watered and cared for. After cutting the grass was long so fell over and was left very damp and clumpy with patches of cut grass left. I didn't want to rake it as its new turf. I cut maybe 1 to 2 inches off in the first cut but then went away for a week. I returned Saturday to find the grass was about 6/7 inches again !!!!!! I let the grass dry out and then cut it again to what I have in the pictures. It was again very wet low down and patchy. Has it grown too long and now died ??? how do I save it

It doesn't look like it's died Fastmoobs:blue thumb: now it's cut and getting air to it it should green up again, don't let it dry out too much though with it being new turf...I'm sure it will be fine:dbgrtmb:

        Looks OK to me.

Rule of grass cutting - don't take off more than 1/3rd of the length, so if you are cutting it to, say, 2" length then make sure you cut it before it gets to 3" tall. Otherwise you sap the strength out of the grass when you cut it.

Turf is a nightmare to get back down to the height that you want to maintain it .... it will probably take you all season to achieve that, and in the meantime you will be cutting it on your mower's highest setting. Getting it down, even one notch, from there will be an achievement! but don't worry, you will get it shorter, bit by bit, over the summer. Don't be in a hurry though, and stick to the 1/3rd rule :)
