Invasive vine / root

Help! I have a problem with this vine / root which i think may be an offshoot from my tree? Its coming up through the grass & in planters and is nigh on impossible to remove so I just cut them back. Can anyone ID this and give me any suggestions on how to resolve the issue?

Does it have frothy white flowers in late summer?

 

it doesnt flower it just grows leaves on a robust stem which i cut back to ground level. can someone like this post then it will allow me to post links to the pictures, it wont let me yet because of forum rules & im a newbie

try again!! seems to be working!! the last pic is a leaf off the tree compared with the leaf of the 'vine'

 

Looks like a lilac to me. Notorious for producing suckers. Break them off below ground level if possible but in twelve years we never managed to stop ours producing more.

One of those things you have to live with I suspect.
