    Hi All,

I have a camellia that is starting to grow over the path. It is just starting to flower. When can I prune it back?

if you want to enjoy the flowers on the bit you need to remove, then wait til it's over. Then prune- they can cope with pruning OK but slope the cut so it doesn't harbour water,

      Thank Jenny

I will prune now as it is right at face height for my daughter.

Can you not bend some of the offending branches away with some canes and twine.

      My camelia is sooo slooow.
Would seem a shame to cut it back.

Camelias make lovely flowers for a vase. Why not combine cutting back with filling vases in the house or giving to friends?

      Hi Sirius.
I only had to cut the lower branches back about 9 inches, so that they didn't hit my daughter in the face. I will cut it back and reshape it when it finishes flowering as it is about 5 foot tall and 5 foot wide.

      Hi westwales
I wish I had thought of the vase suggestion, but I have shredded it all and is now on compost heap.

      Thanks for the replies though.
