    Hi,

I bought this plant from a garden centre 2 years ago. the first year we got some silly little fruit from it. didn't look too edible. Thought as it was first year tgat was the reason. Brought it indoors over winter. It suffered, don't know why. Put it back out last spring and it never really got any better, but still had some growth by autumn. Thought, what the hell and just left it outside over this winter. This is what it looks like now:

That green shoot is coming from underneath. Thought it may be new growth, but now I'm suspecting it could be a weed ;-)

    Is it dead??
Have I now got an extra pot to be filled?

    cheers

The green shoot is the root stock growing, poncirus trifoliata, the top growth will almost certainly be dead, as mandarin is not really hardy.

Poncirus is hardy and makes a very spiny twiggy bush which has miniature oranges.

How would I go about cutting off the new growth then repotting it elsewhere??
I obviously don't want the dead part of the plant ;-)

Just saw off the dead part above the new shoot.
    Thats the mandarin.

Be careful not to break off the new growth from the roots, it maybe brittle until it hardens off, but I have a feeling some of that grew last year, its just the lighter coloured leaves that are new this year.
    Might be wrong though.
