Polestar are a good stringless runner bean so with a bit of luck they should start growing well soon. My Polestar are about 6ft high but I planted them out (already 6" high) in mid-April. A couple of other varieties that I have are a bit ahead of them and the others are behind. We're just about to plant out our last 30 plants and by the end of July they will all be the same height.

We do succession planting and hope that the earlier ones don't get killed by frost. If they survive we are lucky enough to be able to pick early beans but they then don't last quite as late in the season as those planted two months later.

We grow a number of varieties as each one does better in different weather conditions.

As you can guess - we like runner beans :D :D :D

Good idea. I never thought of taking that risk. I wind up with plants in the greenhouse twisted round everything, and have a nightmare separating them and planting them out ...

I am a great believer in Scarlet Emperor.

Little story. I was in a Garden Centre and two old ladies mistook me for an employee...they wanted something to grow up the side of a wooden shed during summer that had nice flower's.

I asked them if they liked runner beans and they said, "oh yes we love them" so I said...ok, try these Scarlet Emperor...they will give you lovely flowers and runner beans afterwards.

They seemed a little dubious, so I gave them my name and phone number and I said, any problems and I would pop round and help. Told them about soil and the canes etc.

So they bought a packet and off they went. Around Christmas time I got a phone call...it was them. They phoned up to wish me Happy Christmas and to tell me they were ever so pleased with my advice as their beans grew to perfection and they were going to do the same next year.

    Nice result yea.:thumb:
