After missing out on certain victory in the cabbage challenge because of a house move, I'd be up for one this year if one is planned?

How about a village show with different categories - best carrot, squash, tomato etc?!

    Hi Andrew,

We'd just about decided on monster tomatoes for this year if you're up for that?

I'd be up for a Parsnip growing competition if anyone fancies?

I like that idea, the GC Village show. It could include ALL mentioned above...and more!

    Steve...:)

Can't we have both, the single theme giant tomato compo as the main one (although there were two competition threads last year), but with a separate (why does Google spellchecker suggest 'sprat' as an alternative spelling to wrongly spelt 'separate'?) 'Village Show' style showcase thread for all the other stuff/whatever else people want to do?

I really like the village idea too..
 Why don't we have 3 I don't really see any reason why not.?

          1. Biggest Tomato..
          2. Pumpkin growing Challenge..
& then to round it off so anyone can enter..
          3. The village type show..??

Sounds good to me, won't have to keep doing a poll on what to grow that way.

I'll start a sticky for the Tomato one in Edible Gardening.

Just a couple of problems with the " Village Show " type comp. Firstly who`s setting the schedule and secondly, who`s doing the judging?:WINK1::dbgrtmb:

Schedule is fairly easy - just stick photos up any time then judging can be in November or summat.

We can either all vote, or the moderators can judge.

Mind you, on reflection maybe it's getting a bit complicated. Perhaps best to stick to Titanic Toms!

The schedule Andrew is about what veg can be shown and EXACTLY what it should look like and how it should be presented.:dbgrtmb: For example, onions should "as grown" that is with roots and stems uncut but the soil washed off, if classed as "dressed" they would have roots and stems trimmed uniformly with the necks properly tied and bulbs properly polished. :dbgrtmb:

              Oh right I see.

I don't think we need to be as picky as an actual village show. "An onion" will do!

If you've got a good onion, stick a photo up and make your case (whether good looking, huge, whatever)

The rest we can leave up to the judges!

                That's how I'd do it.
