You can have the judging whenever you want, I only suggested Sept as that is when out village show is.. I think, as long as you enter your photos as you harvest them, would be the ticket & then I will go through & get them into one thread for judging/voting.! How does that sound.?
No photos of produce tacked on at the end at judging time without any prior growing pics..?

Let me know what you want..

I harvested my giant Pumpkin at Haloween weekend (end of Oct) Giant Toms will need a long season and will get it if it's mild (one of my plot neighbours here in Cumbria harvested tomatoes Christmas week).

Village shows are held when they are held to make the best of the weather, we dont have that restriction here.

But hold it when you like, I wont harvest untill things are ready.

    Steve...:)

I think you've got it just right. An uncomplicated arrangement that would allow most to submit something sounds ideal. Mid-September is the time of the Harrogate Show & should be late enough for anything....(assuming a separate pumpkin competition)

Oh yes the Pumpkin growing comp would be separate to the village comp, that was why I said mid Sept.. Plus you have the Pumkin carving comp too..
I think it could be very civilised.. If you want to sort out what categories to have in the village comp & any simple rules I will get it all set up for you.. :dbgrtmb:

      So are we settled with..
      1. Largest Tomato Comp..
      2. Pumpkin Growing Challenge..
      3. Largest Sunflower on the Corner..
      4. The Corner's Village Show..
      5. Scariest Pumpkin Carving Comp..

        Hi folks.

The timing shouldn't really be an issue, imo. Lets for arguments sake set a provisional deadline of late September. If any members need more time for their crops to mature, then surely they can be accommodated, yes?

I think you have to take into account that people further north have a slightly later growing season. So I think Freddy's idea of late September is good.

I'm not really into veg but may have a go with the sunflower. :)

I think this is a lovely idea and in the light hearted spirit of the thing....if someone happens to grow a strawberry that looks like a love heart or a potato that's the image of Elvis..they can put up a photo and name the class, then see if there are any more entries out there!
I might just have a go at a miniature garden or a vegetable man....re live my childhood.
            Ooooh! Best decorated cake too....
